strange undercoating underneath the M3
Have you guys looked underneath your E90/E92 M3? I noticed that underneath the panels have an almost black fiber coating and I don't know what this is.
Any pics of your underbody that you can post/email? Thanks, Steve |

Yup, beneath the front bumper cover and beneath the tranny (DCT at at least). I am trying to figure out the purpose as well. They appear to be serious dirt/grime magnets but I have not seen it actually happen yet. My suspicion is that it is on the aerodynamics side.

We have a winner........its a tar type substance that every car dealer in the world will over you as an up-charge that supposedly reduces road noise. Perhaps your dealers were instructed by BMW to add it on to cut down on noise or BMW put it on at the factory. Either way, its messy to put on and is generally something you have to buy from the dealer as an a la carte option so if you got it direct from the factory that way there is another thing you get for free

Actually its not a tar substance, I looked further underneath and found more of the material in the mid section underneath the car. I noticed that E90 M3 was etched in the plate.
It looks like it is a factory material. |
