+2 The current poll just more or less answers "Who's online?"

This thread is making me not want to buy an m3. There are too many young people in their teens or early 20's buying this car or having it bought for them. I live in southern California so it will probably be worse. There are going to be a ton of rich kids driving around with m3's. Makes the car less special IMO.

41 Here Too!
Me too -- 41 years old (will be 42 on 20 May) own my own home, have a great job and usually buy a new car every four years with bonus money (the M3 vert will be the third new car I've bought with bonus cash). I'm bonused quarterly, so I put those in the bank for four years ($5k x 16 quarters = $80K to spend on my new baby!!)

I'm 30 when receiving the car.
And by the way, this is my first post. Been lurking here for over a year, I recently registered after ordering E92 M3. Build schedule is week 20, delivery on early June here in Finland, with M-DCT. |

To all the older folks who are scratching their heads wondering about the younger buyers affording these things - take a look at the salary surveys on M3 forum. Its pretty clear what is going on:
- a small percentage have family money - a small percentage have the means because of great job - a small percentage live in areas where Real Estate is dirt cheap - by far the largest percentage have prioritized the vehicle over appreciating assets that are more appropriate for their age which is revealed by the salary surveys. As someone noted, at the exclusion of all else you only need to make 40K for a 60K car. |

Buy it for the love of driving it, and sharing the experience with other enthusiasts.

Good perspective. I thought the average age would be much higher, given the price point. But, this a "biased sample" (members of a web forum generally = younger) as we say in market research. Or, at least that makes me feel better about being in the upper 1/3 of the age range for respondents.

Just ask your dealer what the avg age is. Definitely different than this poll. Most M buyers do not post, they just buy. Demographics play a big difference tough. SoCal will be much different than St. Louis.

Will be 36 when I get mine for next year. Own my own apt in Manhattan, and a condo in Jersey, where I'll garage my M.
To all the young guys (<25) getting this car, IMO, your priorities are whacked. Start building assets that appreciate at that age. Thats what I did |
