Insurance after remaps

All this talk of remaps makes me want one as well...

However I know I should declare it to the insurance guys, who will probably try to charge me more., which sucks, but that's life.

So you remapped people, how mush extra did your insurance co. charge you?

If you are too coy about admitting that your a 19 yo single male with 12 pts and your insurance is mega bucks, or a little old lady with 30 yrs no claims, them PM me.

i dont think there going to pull your ecu out and check, i told them about points, but that was it

jj is right, they are unlikely to check your ECU but the extra cost is not much compared to the price of the car

Guys, not the best type of threads to post on. In the event of an insurance claim you'd be suprised where some of the companies trawl to seek information in order to get out of paying. It's always worth ringing up your insurance company and asking them how much it would be if you do decide to remap the engine, in some cases you'd be suprised that the extra cost is not that much.

Did you just simply tell them that you'd had a remap or did they want more details? (e.g. how much has the power / torque increased by?)

What percentage its gone up by. Pretty straight forward really. Lot less complimicated than i thought it would be.

It beats me why people spend £25,000+ on a car but won't pay £100 or so extra to declare a remap.

I had my last car, Audi S3, remapped from 225 to 265. Declared it to Direct Line, no problem, premium went up £100/year. All it takes is a phone call.

Following a serious, expensive accident, believe me the investigators will examine your ECU.

i am in the same situation, also insured by direct line ... mine went up £100 too.

Wonder why mine went up 200? my age one presumes. For sure it aint worth not telling them. Unless you have pot fulls of money to buy a new car?! But then again if you had pot fulls you would stump up the extra insurance cash eh.

A-Plan Insurance are very competitive when it comes to mods - mine is only an extra £40 pa.

Carl £200 for a REMAP, you really can't be shopping for your insurance, MGOC insurance through Lancaster is something like £25 a mod (might be a bit more), it's really cheap!!

Now I can appreciate you aren't insuring a Classic or Older car and you car is worth more than an old MG but £200, get shopping

Can't recommend Lancaster enough

tele no is 01480-48-48-48 and I wouldn't be surprised if they don't do a deal with the BMWOC as they deal with quite a few I think!!

Ti Rich, I was insured with BMW and post re-map the additional premium, half way through the annual policy was £113 which included the obligatory admin fee.

Excess went up an additional £200. The additional premium maintained the comprehensive cover, so imo worth it for piece of mind, especially on an expensive car.

Cuz i was already insured with some one, aint changine half way thru a policy for 200 quid.

But another company may have a really high initial price and only charge 25 a mod and it still might end up being more etc.

yep still stock, no remap on mine in 22 months. Actually never even been a remapped 335D never mind driven one

Just back from another trip to Spain was 42c yesterday at 7pm

Back out next week for the end of project party

I am with BMW insurance and it was around £100 on the 535d, £130 on the 335i and about £80 on the 320d.

~£100 seems to be the ballpark figure, my other research seems to suggest if you say it will add more than 10% power then this starts to rise.
