With a straight face you tell them that if your boyfriend was with you, he'd bitch slap all four of them.

So true. How can you really get mad at them. Tell me you never did anything stupid when you were in high school. I remember the time I waved a big penis shaped sucker at a bunch of gang members in San Jose. Often the teenage brain is not fully functional.

I can see that I'm not going to get out of this one easily.

Honestly, I don't know how I ended up with a large candy penis on a stick.

I crying from laughing so hard after writing that last sentence. About four or five of my friends and I were riding in a truck and either the thing was already in the truck or one of the guys got it from or for a girlfriend.

Anyway the thing was there. We were a bunch of dumb teenagers. There was a group of Mexicans around a couple of low riders. Stupid behavior follows. No one got hurt, but a mirror on the truck took the brunt of a prybar aimed at me.

There must be a good quote from this that will come back to haunt me.

Wouldn't know about the M3, but when I drive my mom's C63 the looks and the exhaust note draw LOTS of attention.

We'll have to agree to disagree then. She was driving a Jetta, so her car was clearly inferior.

I'll bet you those same girls don't hurl insults at a Ferrari driver or a Maserati driver (and there's plenty of those around here, too.)
I'd be willing to bet she would.

I see it as a far more abstract phenomena. Person A sees person B enjoying something that Person A does not have and hasn't the means to acquire. Person A wishes they had what Person B did, and cannot deal with the complex emotions this causes. So, they act out immaturely. Case closed, IMHO.

Cheers.

Wow! Never understood teenage angst, huh? There is no shortage of teenagers from any background who simply see the driver of a BMW, Porsche or any vehicle that connotates status as a sell-out or simply a symbol of what they percieve as wrong with the world. It's a rebellion against the status quo. Or they coulda been drunk.

I get lots of thumbs up and had loads on my recent road trip through Europe. I was regularly encouraged by other road users to blast away so they could hear the exhaust

All possible.

Here's the thing, if she got home and her parents handed her the keys to a brand new BMW would she turn it down? Especially as a Jetta owner? Honestly? Do you truly believe that? No way in hell I say. Not a chance. Ergo, she has no problem with the BMW, the status, the stereotype, the owner's supposed materialism or anything else. Oh sure, she may claim to have problems with any or all of those things because its easier than admitting she is jealous. Sure, that's totally feasible, and really quite likely. The thing is, we are smarter than her, and know her better than she does don't we? No, the reality is what she has here is simply lots of envy. Yep. That's MHO though, but I will stick to it. Of course, we are now analyzing this way too much and giving this misguided young woman way too much of our time.

I'm with RadJoe on this one. You're applying your specific world view and adult thinking/behavior on teenage girls. Of course, she'd drive her Daddy's BMW, (and she probably does; he gave her a Jetta as her own car.) She's not jealous, she's living well. She's doing what RadJoe is implying. It's teenage angst. (As just one example, a close friend of mine complained that his daughter attacked him for owning XOM stock because it's an evil company. In fact, she's got a TF and is living quite well off of her father's investment. It's just her working through her world view.)

This isn't jealousy. It's kids picking up media queues and their friend's queues. These kids don't have time in their lives yet for envy. That's an more an adult phenomenon.

Whatever the reason behind her idiocy, I would have tossed a brick through her windshield if I had one lying around in my car.
