Scraping over inclined parking lot driveways?

Its been only 400 miles since i took delivery of the brand new M and ive already heard front bumper being scraped 3 times already when driving up and down those inclines when going into or out of a parking lot..the sound comes from the bottom corner it seems.

Is it really that low? I dont have a lip or anything...stock..ZCP but that should be negligible.

Anyone else had or have scraping issues when going up and down inclines? I checked to see if i damaged the bottom underside of the bumper but i didnt feel anything. Its wierd cuz my other car is lowered with coilovers, basically slammed but i dont get any issues going over the same driveways and such.

(I know if you have a vette, you scrap over everything, but man its annoying to try to have to angle on every incline because sometimes you dont get the room to do that because some other driver is on the other side trying to get out of the lot and your angle space is limited. i kept this car stock figuring i wouldnt have to do all the angling and stuff. just hit it straight on..)

If you look under the front bumper there is a plastic piece that hangs down.
That is what is scraping most likely, its also on the 335's.

I've scraped a couple times when going up/ down an incline.... usually it's the black plastic pieces under the bumper that see the scratches now i go slowly through an incline

Some of the posters recommend switching to Sport mode on the suspension just prior to going up the incline.

Thank goodness for those black plastic pieces.
I scraped once going into a restaurant entrance that had an awful dip.
I jumped out later to inspect and found no wear on the paint.
To me that's what really counts.

This. I think that plastic does a good job of keeping your paint fresh... But just to avoid the situation i go up and down on an angle so one wheel at a time... You probably look a little weird but hey atleast your car still looks fresh...

When in doubt I enter/exit at an angle…had 4+ years of practice driving a '06 Vette.

Yep, and those plastic pieces also protect the bottom of the radiator as they stick out lower than it. Better them being scratched than getting a bent radiator.

Man, just take it at a slight angle.... Just take a look at the car, it sits pretty low. Any significant incline will warrant taking at an angle!

Yeah, the ZCP's are definitely lower. During 2 months with '11 ZCP, I've already scraped the bottom more often than entire time w/ '08 lease... :/

I always took those in a very sharp angle to avoid scrapes, also it goes without saying very slowly.

FYI,

Those black "plastic" pieces I believe you are referring to are actually EMI Engine shields and they aren't really plastic, but more of a fiberglass coated in a felt like material. I have already gone through one on my car. They are about $75 I believe to replace, however install is a bitch. Looks like it is just a hex screw, but the car should be lifted since they are a bitch to remove.

That's actually what is written in the M3 owners manual supplement.

+1...sport mode is also recommended for speed bumps, as well.

It's embarrassing. When in socal last month at a hand-wash place, the customers were all ogling and admiring my beautiful new shiny clean waxed car as I slowly drove past them on the lot…

...and then I scraped as I pulled out onto the street. Ruined the whole moment!

take it at a slight angle, turn on sport mode and it solve 90% of most inclines/declines.
