First...merry Xmas. Second, I'm having a real hard time believing this. My brother in law has a FBO Camaro and only dynoed 427 the same day I pulled 577. That motor has some serious internals and/or the M3 has issues. I've raced him numerous times at the track and its not even a race. I don't understand why people race on the streets. Until you kill yourself or someone else you won't understand. Oh, wait....I'm too good of a driver so it won't happen to me.

i thought a 625 m3 would do better considering the Camaro curb weight is 3,750 lb (1,700 kg) and the m3 curb weight is 3,704 lb (1,680 kg) and it can be seen that the Camaro has an extra passenger in the car and has less power. not to forget that the m3 is a dct also

I would have expected the M3 to take the win, Camaro weighs more, has a passenger, down in power and M3 has DCT. Something's wrong

What type of advantage would the torque make? Obviously the camaro is crushing the M3 in that category but I thought once they were rolling that would be negated some what

Reading through the comments... someone noted the Camaro had drag radials and the M3 was on PS2's. Not sure if there's any truth to that, but even then I'd expect the boosted M3 to win from a rolling start. Hrmmm...

It is not hard at all to make that kind of power on a 6 speed LS3. With a cam and supporting mods they are 470-480 rwhp on average and I have seen some big cams on good fuel break 500 rwhp.
I still expected the powerband, DCT, and the weight advantage of the M to wipe the floor with the Camaro though. Even the owner of the Camaro said he didn't expect to win: http://ls1tech.com/forums/street-rac...r-torq-hd.html

I would expect the camaro to have more mods too. And wondering how much aero plays a part at high speeds. On the grand-am races, the announcers always mention the camaro suffers on the straights due to it's big front end.
Anywho, here's the sister thread on the other forum http://ls1tech.com/forums/street-rac...torq-hd-2.html |

From reading that thread, they ran to 150mph, end up the camaro's 4th gear. And don't think the camaro had any other mods then mentioned.
Oh didn't see the post with the link right above mine. Last edited by sensi09; 12-25-2012 at 06:12 PM.. |

m3 is not about drag racing, why ppl so serious. By the end of the day Camero is still a chev, won't change anything to it. If u wanna drag racing, buy a motorcycle. 凸 凸.

Interesting video, I've ran Cameros before and the outcome was different.
Is Mr TQ or Dr TORQ in the Tri state area by any chance. I would like to check out his ride ! |

If I had to guess the outcome of the race before seeing the video I'd say the M3 would win hands down (lighter, better transmission shifts faster with much tighter gears, more horsepower, etc...). Those LS motors take very well to mods - so I'd really like to get specifics on exactly what he has done. I'm less shocked with the fact that the Camaro was able to easily pull off the hit, but rather that the M3 didn't have enough in it to run him down and pass him up top. Who knows, maybe he was on the bottle during these runs
