M3 sales volume - 100k units possible?

BMWs goal was to sell 100,000 E9X M3s. Will they do it?

There was some lively discussion on this topic in the past. Certainly we would think the global recession would impact this goal. Recall that just under 86,000 E46 M3s were sold world wide. How is the new M3 doing thus far?

Quote:
The ideal start: The new BMW M3 more successful than the predecessor by nearly 100 per cent.

No less than 14,589 BMW M3 models were sold already 14 months after the start of production; of these, 11,485 were sold between January and August of this year alone. The number of new BMW M3 models sold in the first year of production was nearly double that of the predecessor model at the same time in its lifecycle.
-Source BMW

Depending on how you extrapolate to year 1 numbers BMW is just on target or just below target. Anyone have 2009 YTD figures? How about links to locations for very complete BMW sales data? I always find this data tough to locate.

I think that BMW will move considerably less than 100,000 M3 as they already deeply cut production this year and most probably they will also cut one full model year of the M3 when they start the push of the F30 3-Series by MY2012/13.

Very highly unlikely IMO - not even close.

State of economy & competition are 2 reasons, although on the other hand the NA high-reving V8 is all reasons in the world for people to start snaping more and more E9x M3s especially as we move out of the economic drama and when official info is released confirming that the next M3 will definitely be FI...

I'm pretty new to the bmw scene but my thoughts are this V8 is killing the M3 sales right now. I personally love it but v8's across the board are just not the way to go in today's industry(lexus isf, audi s5, c63). Although I have no factual data to prove this, in my eyes none of these vehicles have sold well.

My thoughts are that BMW will either have to bring the new model m3 w/v6tt out earlier than expected OR they will put that motor in the e90-93 body style at some point. I don't think they can afford to wait until 2014..

I know the M3 is a niche vehicle and people who buy them aren't concerned with gas mileage but rather the performance and everything else that comes with the car. But I can't help but feel that overall the market is just not the same. I'm happy about this because I think we definiely have a classic in the making in our hands.

Again I could be very wrong with above. This is just what I'm feeling at this pont.

No way. They would have to sustain this rate until the very last car rolls of the line, which would probably be an industry first.

i think they are lucky if they sell 3/4 of that number. E9x price jumped a bit from E46 M3 is not helping either.

I am surprised at all the folks certain they won't make it. Sure the economy in 2009 was worse than 2008 but 2008 was pretty bad. Judging by the market drop only 2008 was worse. Nonetheless BMW was basically on target. I am not saying they will make it for sure and the economy will definitely make it more unlikely but it is not like they are only going to sell 50k of them either. The car still has a ton going for it. Great price (base price...), class leading peformance, darling of the press (as usual), amazing V8, etc. Only time will tell.

Let's see... BMW already cut production, the E90 M3 could be out of production two years before the traditional new M3 introduction, and E92/E93 will follow a year before if BMW goes thru their plan of introducing the new 3-Series one year earlier than normal.

Unless there is a mayor increase of sales from now to MY2012 (the new M3 should show up by MY2014 instead of MY2015) then I don't see how BMW will hit even 60,000 units. Which will be a great increase over the ~45,000 E46 units, by the way...

based on that number in this economy crisis, I think approx 80,000 is the final number.

I just ordered the M3 E90 M-DCT saloon this week, supposed to come early December, nice to see just how rare these cars are.
I hope it looks as good as this picture as mine will be the same.
