It was when I lived there, and it still is in Dallas, where traffic is honestly worse.

I dont think there ever was a FQ-400 IX but the VIII FQ-400 was tuned by these.

The new model is based on the Lancer Evolution VIII MR FQ320 and was developed in the UK by Mitsubishi Motors UK's motor sports department, in association with tuning specialists Rampage, Owen Developments and Flow Race Engines. Together, they modified the Lancer's legendary 2.0-litre turbocharged engine so that it now produces a mighty 405 bhp and 355 lb-ft of torque.
One of the guys from WRC Developments was with Flow Race Engines.

I couldn't care less anyway, a 4 cylinder banger based on FWD platform for 50,000 Euro before options.
Not the same thing AMG is owned by Mercedes they are the same company AMG is inhouse WRC Developments and Mitsubishi is not.

It all comes down to costs.

It's highly likely (almost certainly) that the standard manual tranny used in the new A-Class wouldn't cope with the power and the torque of this AMG 4 cyl engine, and given the popularity of the dual clutch transmissions, and their development by the transmission makers, it's more cost effective to offer the car as DCT, especially given that most people would likely choose the option anyway.
A bespoke designed manual tranny for a transverse layout that could handle that torque would be expensive to develop. Also, the extra ratios offered by DCT suits a high torque turbo engine better.

It's a fwd car in pretty much every respect, only when the system detects front wheel traction loss does a clutch engage and transmit up to 50% of the power to the rear wheels.

This is a 'fake' awd car

That's a matter of opinion, not a fact.

Are you certain of this? Haldex IV is a constant rate setup now, in the 60/40 range with transfer front or back capable of 90% to either axle. There are controllers for the Golf R and TT's that enable as much as 90% fixed to the back, but after looking at the rear driveshafts of those cars, I can't imagine that's a good, long term idea.

Rumor is that Haldex V will be capable of running rearward bias and I'd guess AMG will use some form of that.

To be fair, no I'm not 100% sure, but that's what two of the UK press articles on the car stated that I've read.
I can't remember which ones now, and didn't save the link.

I have heard a MB fan I know repeat what you've said. If it does use the newer Haldex system, though, I agree, that what you say should be valid.

I've had a close look at a new A-Class in a showroom, and wasn't impressed, and I don't like awd unless it's for mud-plugging off-road

Have you driven a dual clutch car in anger?

I ask this as someone who still prefers three pedal cars, but honestly think that performance oriented cars are heading the two pedal route and things like the BRZ, Miata and similar will be where three pedal cars exist. Automatics are more efficient now and dual clutch setups are faster.

Yes, did not care much for paddles, lost interest after about a couple of minutes. Would rather put the car in auto mode and step on accelerator.

Coming from the AMG world, I can agree that their engines are power monsters. However, I'm looking forward to comparing my old E55 to the 2011 550i. I know it's not a direct comparison, but I'm willing to be the 550i will handle almost as well as my E55, if not better. Now I'll just need to do something to get the hp/tq numbers to be on par.
