For the street? I'd take the M3. Much more comfortable and liveable on a day-to-day basis.
Without the need of back seats, a vette is a great daily driver.
It gets over 30mpg highway!!

Is the car being built for competition(time attack),just hpde fun, or to set an all out track record? Z06 is obviously going to be faster of the 2 but also the hairier one to drive. For Non competition fun, the m3 hands down. Or in my case I'd strip my m6 for track use, considering their piss poor resale value. Only 200 lbs more than an m3 but 100hp up

Now if they can only make the interior nicer.
+1
that interior is ridiculous for a car of that caliber and price. That is the biggest downside for me on the Vette, but those things are monsters, tail happy monsters.

Yeah, I wish somebody had done it before, but given its target audience most of the track enthusiast haven't considered this option.

Looking at the facts, it weighs only 200 lbs more than an m3, but it can most likely shed weight faster than an m3 considering all of the luxury accoutrements that can be taken out. It also has a 100 more horsepower to start with, which also responds well to boltons and tunes. I'm just not sure about the overall balance of the car. I'm playing with coilover and spring setups but I haven't had enough track time to dial them in yet.

What is the m6 curb weight? I thought it was over 4000.

It weighs the same as an M3 then??? Pretty sure the M3 is around ~3750...

edit: Interwebs research tells me M3=3710 and M6=3910.

Weird, on the front page of bimmer posts f12 vs e63 lists the weight at 3770. Wikipedia also lists it at 3770 and the m3 at 3700. But we all know there's more than 70lbs difference between the 2. Weird...

+1.

Many people don't understand that, but I urge them to try a Vette (any model) and drive it to the limit, see how it communicates that limit. Now scary can also mean big fun, but you won't know until you try it, if that big ass danger enhances your pleasure or completely shuts you off.

For full track car, I'd take an Atom over both of them. Less $, and absolutely exhilarating in a way that shuts off all your survival instincts.

Agree that z06 is difficult to drive at the limit with TC off.
I have passed many vettes(including z06) on the track with my mildly modded 135i only because drivers dont push them to the limit.
Like they say, its easyer to drive slow cars fast and vice versa.

So true, I've only seen one z06 on the track that was running over 70% of its ability. Seems like the z06 attracts the buyers that take haven in the knowledge of its performance rather than experience it for themselves. Or they are just way over there heads with the car

ive seen quite a few z06s and corvettes in general being driven well. i find it is a tendency with a lot of cars though for certain owners to be overly overly cautious and drive at well below the limits. they take their car to say they have done it nothing more. a weiner in a 458, 997 turbo, z06, or just about any other performance car is no match for a well driven "slower" car.

Depending on your driving skills, the Z06 is harder o drive fast than the M3, lots of torque and if modded and stripped it makes it even harder but in the hands of an excellent driver that is used to track I would go with the Z06. I've beaten a C6 Vette with my modded G35 mainly because the driver was scared to push it hard in the turns and hard corners but in a straight line I got my ass handed to me, so again depends on your skills my friend.

I don't understand all the hate on vettes interior and seats. My dads 2013 Z06 has a really nice interior IMO and is holding up well with already 10k on the clock. Looks and layout wise it is way better than a GTR, and nearly as nice as an E92, but not quite. Plus his seats are more comfortable than those in my E93..

No doubt its the better track toy, and one could argue better dual purpose with its much better fuel economy. Pops gets around 26 or more on the highway.

You are out of your mind. I've owned three C6 versioned Vettes and the last one was a Grand Sport with the 4LT package (includes a leather dash). The seats are freakin LaZBoy recliners with ZERO side bolster support, the interior materials are cheap as hell, the leather is of piss poor quality and the car smells like a glue factory. Just open and close the glovebox in your old man's Vette...it's a flimsy piece of crap. Vette interior layout is not bad and flows better than a GTR but the materials used are not even close to being as nice as a GTR let alone an M3.
