They are being compared because the 1st gen cts-v was priced around the same as the e46 m3. If this comes in around the same price as the new m3 or cheaper I may just get one instead of the M3. You guys can say all you want about how ugly it is, blah blah blah. The fact of the matter is this car will absolutely SMOKE the new m3. The funny thing is, it is coming with a detuned 550hp from the ZR1 Corvette, so I'm sure it won't be too difficult to unlock the extra 75 horses the ZR1 is coming with stock. I've decided, if this car comes in at 60k, I'm asking for my money back from BMW.

This car should be compared to the M5 not the M3.

Why not?

Why are they not in the same class, same size and hopefully cheaper than the M3. BTW, the interior is really nice and the seats looks amazing. |

Wow, sick, they are doing it and at 550hp . As I mentioned earlier this is going to be really tough to fit into their lineup in terms of both power and price. Interior and seats do look pretty nice. If it comes in priced under the M3 it could be much more of a threat than I thought initially.
I have seen weight estimated at 4200 lbs. That makes the lb/hp comparison at: CTS-V: 7.6 lb/hp M3: 8.8 lb/hp (using 414 hp) A whopping 14% advantage to the Caddy. Lucids N'Ring regression analysis predicts the 400 hp CTS-V based on its weight and power getting a 8:15 N'Ring time, actual is 8:19. Running the new CTS-V predicts a 8:01 lap time. I'm sure they will shoot for a sub 8 minute time and best the M3 (MT at least) Competition = yeah. Too bad they won't do a 2 dr... |

I'm guessing base around 70-75. When the 1st gen cts-v was released, it had the same motor as the c5 zo6 and was priced right around the c5 z06, low 50s. The new CTS-V now has a better motor than the z06, which starts around 70k.

I hope they would'nt do that. The STS-V was very unsuccesful at $70k even when it was trying to compete with the CLS55 and M5 that where a lot more expensive, it would be a huge mistake to price this car at $70k. I'm guessing that the Z06 will be a lot more limited and it is a Vette after all.

Actually, Cadillac has better reliability than BMW. The BMW fanboys are really starting to get old on this site. BMW does not equal God. http://www.jdpower.com/autos/ratings...bility-ratings Next time do your research. The Cadillac will be faster, and according to JD Power and Associates, more reliable. Do you have any sources stating that BMW is more reliable than Cadillac? |

I actually love the Cadillac. I sat in one at the car show for the Auto Show in Miami last year. It was the most comfortable experience I ever had. I really enjoyed it and I would buy this car as a sedan. But again the M3 is not in the same class.

This data summarizes reliability across all models from a manufcturer. So one can say on average Cadillac is a bit more reliable than BMW. However, one abaolsutely can not conclude from this that CTSs are more reliable then M3s. Have a look at this fairly damning reliability report on the XLR just two links away from the one above. As with all statistics, the devil is in the details. |
