the e92 M3 weight is not much of a problem, its the e93 that would be the issue, expected to add 400lbs to a advertised weight.
e93 M3 would be 4k wt. Has anybody heard if a optional ragtop or CF roof is true?

True, but every bit helps. Point is, at least in part, the carbon fiber is supposed to counteract whatever weight gain the car suffers in its transformation to an M. And intuitively, that ought not be a whole lot. Yet it amounts to nearly 100bs in the 650->M6 case (3814 vs 3909), and again, that's not even including the weight saved by the carbon fiber roof.

The E46 M3 only weighed slightly more than a E46 330i Sport, so it would be reasonable for that to be the same with the E92 especially since the BMW quote on record was that the new V8 would be 'lighter' than the S54 straight six (which had an iron block).
The V8 will be lighter than the S54, no doubt. But will it be lighter than the N54? Here is my speculation on that:

From what I've read the N54 only outweighs the N52 by 60lbs. That's not a lot considering the turbo and equipment as you said, and in addition, the N52 block is cast from lightweight magnesium so its actually lighter than the last generation M54 that it replaced. I suspect the N54 is only a little bit heavier than the M54, and so it could well be lighter than the S54. If that's the case, there's room for the M V8 to be lighter than the S54, but still heavier than the N54, or at the very least, around the same weight as the N54. If true, that would mean that the car is already over 3500 lbs, since the 335i is over 3500 lbs.
