Bought an E90 2 months ago and still haven't driven it
I've always liked bmws but havent owned one in about 10 years. After a bunch of boring and practical cars over the last few years, i figured it was time for a fun street car to leave mostly stock. I bought a one owner 2008 with 57k from arkansas on ebay. It took almost a month to receive the car. Shipping was way harder than i thought. Almost all shipping companies are brokers. if i were to do it again, i would pay a little extra and use intercity lines.
When i finally got the car i noticed a puddle of oil where i parked it. It had an epoxy patch on the oil pan. Apparently it just started to leak because the ppi didn't catch it. So i figured i would do the rod bearings and get a used oil pan. The used pan i got had stripped oil drain threads but i was able to find a local fabrication guy to fix it better than new. I just finished the rod bearing replacement and just need to change all the fluids now. I installed vibratechnic motor mounts and underdrive pulleys while i was there. I will probably just install an intake, midpipe, tune and edc coilovers later then leave it alone. It was actually pretty easy to do. Looking at SYT shadow's diy beforehand helped a lot. I can't wait to enjoy this car and keep it as my "modern classic" Last edited by hungryhippo; 08-20-2017 at 02:49 PM.. |

Congrats and well done addressing those items straight away.
Looks like a modded C5 or C6 vette also broke into the boring auto club. |

Man those bearings look terrible. Glad you were able to catch it before anything bad happened to your engine! Enjoy the car, glad you were able to get it all sorted out.

Thanks all. The C6 i bought new in 2009 and has turned into a track car. Not really enjoyable on the street.
It can be done on jackstands, but it depends on your tolerance. I would split it up into 2-3 days. Use 3 ton jackstands and get the car up at least 18". I would remove the subframe as well to give you room. I still wonder if it happened after the ppi since i had a hard time finding a shipper. But i planned to do rod bearings eventually anyway so it was still a fair deal. |

Amen to that. I had same experience, used a broker which Intercity recommended to me.

Good timing, that one set doesnt look to good at all.
How was it doing the job on a 4post hoist? Did you drop the subframe or just left it hanging? Great looking garage btw! Last edited by tdott; 08-21-2017 at 07:33 PM.. |

The biggest problem are your bearings , they show a lot of copper !
They actually look pretty bad for 57K miles , and let us hope that your oil filter caught all the copper shavings . Wish you the best of luck

Job went well on the 4 post, i have a sliding bridge jack and jack stand cross bar. I just let the subframe hang since there's room to maneuver around with a lift.
They do look worse than expected. The car had complete service history. |
