Current RS4 Owner
Hello Everyone,
I'm new to the forum and wanted some advice about the E92 M3. I am a current B7 Audi RS4 owner. I purchased the car new in 2007. As time has gone by I have fallen in love with the look of the 2011 E92 M3 equipped with the competition package. I live in New England and purchased the RS4 for the winter climate. However, I really want this M3. I've never driven the E92 M3 and wanted to know if there is a noticeable power difference? I've seen all the Top Gear comparisons and have read ever online article in which the M3 is the clear winner. Are there any former RS4 owners here that have made the switch? Lastly, how many people use their M3 in a winter climate? Any advice about making the switch would be greatly appreciated. |

A set of winter tires on the M3 will get you easily through the winter in England
Power difference not really, with the RS4 you will be quicker off the line then I guess the M3 will catch up. The M3 is more of a driver focused car and with some time behind the wheel you should be able to go faster than the RS4 |

giving up RS 4 is not easy thing. It's such rare special cars compare to massive production M3s.

The M should be a better balanced car overall. Weight distribution is nearly bang on. A set of winter tires and you shouldn't have a problem in the winter.

I drive my car in Nova Scotia winters without issue... it is all about the tires and having some common sense. RWD and winter should not put you off of the M3 if you decide that you want it for other reasons.

I'd take a RWD car with winter tires over a AWD car with all seasons.

Lived em both residing here in the snowbelt. I had an X5d W/Xdrive on all seasons. I lasted one week on em before I traded for some decent snow tires. Makes all the difference IN THE WORLD!

I lived in CT for over 20 years before moving to PA. Started out with a Mustang 5.0 and worked my way through various BMW's - all RWD. As long as you have the driving technique down, the most important thing is good performance snow tires on all four wheels.

i made it through last winter with a set of winter tires, it is definitely not as good as your rs4 is. with that said why worry about a handful of days and sacrifice fun the rest of the year?

If you do get the M3 make sure you get Clear Bra on it for winter fun I am glad I did. Just have a Jeep on standby for winter.

maintenance on the E9X M3 will be cheaper vs Audi RS4.
I test drove an RS4, and it is such a sleeper on the FWY. I like both cars, to be honest with you. |

When I thought about one of them and then read about the carbon issues of their direct fuel injection, I gave up the idea. Even the 4WD is a great winter benefit, 4WD handling is something I can do without.

Additionally, I don't know how many of you are aware of his, but the darn calipers have brushes; thus will remove any dust or any particles that gets accumulated on the rotors. Gotta be expensive stuff. |

The power is delivery is not that different, but the M3 feels more lively, for sure.
I have had M5s and Porsches in the past, and I drove all of them in the winter. I plan to slap on a good set of winter tires and power my way through the New England weather. I recommend you do the same. -Chris '11 M3 ZCP |

Both have phenomenal engines. Very similar. RS4 has more midrange torque but M3 pulls harder in the upper rpms M3 chassis, steering and overall dynamics literally blow a stock RS4 away. No comparison here. RS4's superior traction make it a much easier and safer car to drive hard and keep in control when really pushing the limits. M3 is more fun but requires more skill to manage it's RWD dynamics. Audi is known for their interiors but gotta say that my M with extended leather is nicer than my RS4 was. I can't comment on winter since I haven't driven my M3 in snow and won't be doing so. I have another vehicle for that. That said, there is just no way the M3 will be as capable. As most have said, with good tires, you will likely do just fine through most conditions, however Get the M3. If for no other reason than just to experience its dynamics and entertaining character. The best way to sum it up is that the M3 is like an RS4 that has had just a little bit to drink.
