I'm lazy and want to leave my track pads on for the summer

Anyone doing the same? My E92 is my daily driver and I'd like to find something for the stock calipers that I can re-bed and use on the street without sounding like a broken down school bus every time I come to a stop. Some have mentioned that the Pagid RS-19 might do the job. I track the car once every two or three weeks, run in the advanced group.

Any thoughts?

I've done it and many others have as well. You'll get a lot of brake squeal likely, but otherwise no problems (probably faster rotor wear too). Some claim that track pads don't clamp hard enough at street temps, but newer pagid/pfc/hawk compounds seem fine to me.

i do it with rs-19 but it isnt my daily driver and it does make a racket most of the time. i have a habit of using the brakes much harder when coming to a stop just so they dont make as much noise.

Tried with PF-06 and within a week, rotor deposits resulted in squealing and grinding when coming to a stop. Went back to stock pads for the winter.

Ive done this with both my Miata and S2000. No issues with stopping, just the noise and added brake dust. Depending on what pads you run, the dust can be very, very corrosive to your wheels if not cleaned very often.

I guess it is all a question of compromise. In general, quiet brakes don't perform that well on the track, and good track pads are noisy on the street. If you don't want to change your pads, you will have to pick which side you want.

Usually, the pads start to get noisy when you lose the pad deposit on the rotors, so a quick re-bedding might help between track days. It does not always work and depends on the pads used.

I've had track pads on my car since October! Hell...I've been running with cracked front rotors on the street since January! I'm trying to play the CHiPs theme song at redlights.

I ran track pads year around in the R32 (before getting my BBK, with much easier pad changes). You can do it, but as others have said, they will be very noisy, and typically produce a lot of dust. Depending on the pad, they can also be very rotor unfriendly. I've never really had stopping issues running them, though.

Yes, I pretty much ruined my stock R32 rims. They were already pretty bent, though, so I didn't really care, but be prepared to wash your rims often if you want to protect the surface.

Good thread. I've been thinking about doing the same or at least wondering what it would be like to run track pads on the street if I was unable to change them out right away. I think I can live with the noise but I am sure I will get a from the wife when we take the car out on a Saturday night.

RS29s here. Ran them with my Stoptech kit through the winter. No problems at all. Some serious squeal but everyone has their windows up anyways.

I found them totally streetable and relatively quiet when I was tracking/bedding on a regular basis. Just over the winter they've become vocal.

So true. I seem to get more noise from the wife complaining about the pads than the pads themesleves .
