In need of a good shipping company..

Hello mates.

I want to get a car shipped from Chicago to California. I would like the shipping cost to be as low as possible, but at the same time I wouldn't want shady people to handle my car and dissemble to jack some parts . You guys know of any reliable and reputable shipping companies?

The problem with most lower cost shipping company is that they works like LTL freight, they will tran-ship your ride...

basically what they do is some trucker will pick it up from Chicago and ship it to a shipping terminal somewhere and then some other trucker will pick up from there and deliver to another spot...so on and on it goes until it make it to CA for you...

The dangerous part is that since it go thru multiple hands, you have higher risks and also takes longer...

You could always look for specialty transport but be prepare to pay good money...

I would recommend to search for car auction companies in the Chicago or neighboring area. They usually will have a good idea on who to go to...

Or

Just fly there and drive the car back, would be a hell of a road trip!

Good Luck and buy insurance, have the seller takes plenty of pictures when they drop it off...

Seriously, it is a nice drive. And I see that the weather in Chicago next week is looking pretty mild . . . Certainly, if you are going to LA, you should have no problem. However, the Sierra Nevadas definitely have snow right now.

+1 on both recommendations and the point about not having it both ways. OP, those are the carriers that are always recommended when this question is asked (constantly), and you could have learned that with the TINIEST bit of searching -- just saying....

We've used the same driver for 6 years. He operates his own business and owns his own truck, so your car is loaded at the pickup location and unloaded when it's dropped off. We use Ryan to transport all of our client's cars, and have had a great experience. He makes trips almost exclusively from Chicago to Los Angeles, so you might want to give him a call. Let him know that Ilia at IND referred you, and he will help you out.

What did you have to ship? From where and how much did it cost? Trying to get a rough estimate if I can..

might as well just purchase a fat lip there, slap it onto the car, and plow through all the snow!

just going to get some quote from all the suggested companies. thanks fellas!

I had my car shipped from Austin (Texas) to Philadelphia with Bidux company, they provide shipping withing the United states and also offer car overseas transport services. This was my first time using such a service, and I can say thankfully I didn't have any issues with the transportation.

Earth Auto Shippers.

I did enclosed from TX to CA and it took 3 days. $1100.

Car came with a 996TT and Audi R8 in the truck as well, so my thinking is they are trusted by others as well with higher priced cars than ours. They had great customer service and driver called to give me updates on where he was and ETA.

Ive always used Uship.com and chose shippers with enclosed trailers and great feedback. Its an open gateway for shippers and id much rather go by actual customer feedback than word of mouth by someone who may not know what there talking about.

Call them for a quote but it will be between $1500 and $2000. I shipped two cars (M3 and 911) from MN to CA. They are not a broker, have their own trucks / trailers, etc. In both instances the cars were delivered by husband/wife teams that were very polite and professional.

Intercity is also a reputable company that offers discounts to PCA and 6speedonline members. I have never used them.

IL to CA will cost you around 900-1200. Try autoline transport or transportreviews.com to find a good company. With so many out there its hard to find a reliable one. Anyway, I have had good experiences with autoline. good luck.

I don't have any recommendations on who to use for shipping, but i do have a recommendation for who NOT to use. Stay far, far, FAR away from Dependable Auto Shippers.
