ipod Y cable worth it?

How much better is the interface vs. just using to standard ipod USB and having the car read it as a USB Hard Drive?

Does the ipod shut down with the car using the y-cable? (my ipod 120gig classic stays on "connected" mode when my car is off)

Dealer wants $120cdn for the cable in toronto!

Y-cable is best.
The ipod shuts down with the car and starts up in place when the car is restarted.
Try to find a mail order Y-cable. $120 sounde outrageous.

BTW, I used the Y-cable in a rental Ford Fusion last week and the ipod would continue to run after the car was shut down. Sync by Microsoft is pitiful.

Don't bother. You need the BMW one.

In the states, the BMW Y cable costs $65. It really is worth it because the ipod never has to be touched. Don't pay $120 on principle.
