question regarding rear tires wearing out on the outside

Hi All,

my car is bone stock, and I am a boring driver with a daily 50 mi commute, no track days and no aggressive driving (rarely gone past 4k rpm)

and I noticed my rear tires are worn on the outside, fronts are wearing out very evenly.

since i am gonna get new tires soon, is it necessary to get alignment done as well?

attached pix for your reference, pix taken at 18k miles. (first pic is one of the front tire, then is rear right and then rear left, not sure why the rear pix came out up-side-down...)

Regards,
Michael

I have has the same wear pattern on my m3. I have been running less pressure in the rears attempting to compensate. I even think the center tread measures taller than inside and outside with the outside showing the most wear.

I am still
Not sure myself if this is normal wear. These are also the contis on the ZCP.

My 335i wore heavily on the inside and I expected the same on the m3.

You may have an alignment issue..no way the rears are suppose to wear that unevenly...mine are wearing evenly on both sides..my guess is your rear camber and/or toe may be out of spec

Running less air pressure will cause the outer edges to wear down more than the center.

Agree with tibra, most likely camber and toe need adjusting.

Definitely has the look of an alignment problem. If it were reversed, and the inside edges were wearing faster, I'd figure it was the 'normal' BMW negative camber wear pattern. But this looks like camber too positive or too much toe-in.

One other thing to what has already been said...the fact you got 18kmiles out of the rears on a M3 is good.
