Someone needs to come forward with their E90 M3 with EPS and willing for me to configure it.

Feel free someone to come stop by the shop so we can finish this up.

Thank you.

I have a 2013 335is coming with the individual system. Have they upgraded the amp or speakers over the years, or is it still the same? I want to try these settings out when it arrives.

I threw out all of my old settings since getting my car's software updated. They tweaked the audio settings.

Here are the E90 settings. Finally had the chance to do this since a customer was willing to let me use his E90.

Here they are:

EQ Settings: E90 M3, Enhanced Premium Sound:

100 Hz: 0
200 Hz: +1
500 Hz: +3
1k Hz: +6
2k Hz: 0
5k Hz: +3
10k Hz: +7

Bass: +4 (User definable)
Treble: +5 (User Definable)
Fader: -1 (User Definable, based on height and seating position. If you are tall and sit further back, adjust the fader. For reference, I am 6 feet tall, and have the fader set to ZERO)
Balance: 0

Surround Processing: ON (Your choice. I personally like the way the DIRAC processor handles time alignment and imaging, so I left the setting on. Plus, it doesn't have the weird in/out fading issue the Logic7 system had)

S-VOL should be set to 2.

Original first post has been edited guys, so you don't have to search back and forth.

E92 and E90 settings are now together on the first page, in the first post.

Thank you for being so patient!

Now go configure your audio systems and enjoy!!

Thanks a bunch, settings are almost the exact opposite of what I've had. I listen to alot of EDM and some rap, been using a modified "V" setup. I imagine yours will sound much better and can't wait to try them.

Malek, would E92 settings be applicable to E 93? As e 93 has a bit different cabin, due to retractable roof and of course we have to listen with top down too
Would you mind updating that too?

I have 2013 M3 cabriolet with premium sound.
Many thanks.

All you guys with the "V" EQ setting... ya'll must really like some treble! Even flat, the stock settings in the E92 with EPS are a total ear-bleeder.

It's not the EQ that causes the distortion when you try to boost frequencies it's a shortfall of the entire system to produce the boost you are requesting with the EQ settings. To make a blanket statement that boosting causes distortion is not true.

I never believed in the one curve fits all theory anyway and I thought this whole post never made a lot of sense to begin with. There is no absolute right or wrong when it comes to sound. All that matters is that you like what you hear.

DIRAC is different than a normal sound processor. It automatically boosts signals and retracts as necessary depending on the song, sound, volume etc. So boosting it to begin with is only detrimental and causes worse sound on this system or any DIRAC
Are you really claiming that the EPS in this car is actively making changes based on some mic that is present in the car?

That is how the DIRAC algorithm works. I takes input from a measurement device and adjusts the signal to get a desired response.

You don't get distortion with the settings in the middle because the middle is basically the "no boost" setting. Every time you request boost on a certain frequency, the amp needs to increase the output signal to the appropriate speakers to create that boost in frequency response you requested. If the amp doesn't have enough headroom to do that, you basically clip the signal and get distortion. Even if the amp does have the headroom but your speaker has reached its mechanical limits, again, you get distortion. The system works as a whole and if any individual pieces is being pushed beyond its limit you get distortion. The DIRAC is still making adjustments in real time but the baseline for the adjustments are based on the configuration of the EQ.

Think about it this way, if any boost at all automatically causes distortion to be produced by the processor, why would it be designed with an option for boost to being with? Why not just make the upper limit 0dB and only allow for cut in each frequency band to prevent distortion from ever happening? Its because the processor itself is not creating the distortion, its another part of the system that is being pushed beyond its limit.

I'm with you on the fact that these settings look a bit off and I can't imagine it sounding very good. I don't have the individual audio system so I don't have the EQ. I've also replaced the entire system with aftermarket components with the exception of the idrive unit so I'll never know what exactly these settings sounded like but from nearly 20+ years of building car audio systems, I can imagine it just doesn't sound like something I would typically tune for.
