Anyone else annoyed with the trunk??

As I imagine most here do, I use my M as my DD. And the way the trunk opens ( or barely does ) when I use the remote leaves a lot to be desired. i realize this is a sports car, but why can't it open completely like on the 5 & 7 series ?? And for that matter, why can't it close automatically when you push the button? Can't tell you how many times I've had both hands full and this would've been a very convenient feature. I realize it's a sports car and that I'm being picky, but the sticker on the car when I bought it was $73k. I think this should be standard.

Haha. Was thinking about this the other day. Have to agree with you. For a $60K+ car, one would think the trunk would open and close by itself. Glad I am not the only one who thinks this!

Perhaps BMW is trying to distinguish the 3 series from the 5 series? There are many other convenience type of features that M5 does that M3 does not.

funny, one of the few things I disliked about my e60 535i was the spring loaded/catapult trunk release...and I actually find the minimal opening of my m3's trunk refreshing and welcomed....to each his own tho...

although it was kind of fun to see latte's launch off the trunk of my e60

RE: automatic closing, I've never had that feature, so I don't miss it. Perhaps if I had it, I'd complain how it takes too long to close tho

You wouldn't want to have to over exert yourself opening the trunk or anything.

The M3 is based on the 3 series, the 3 series is an entry level car so they didn't design a automatic trunk into it. With the 5 series they wanted more whiz bang features so they put that in there. It's simply a result of the car it's based on. If you want the feature badly enough, take it to a shop that does high end custom audio work, and they'll set you up with a remote controlled trunk in a weekend for $600. It would be easy to tie an actuator control box into being triggered by the lock release.

This is my no 1 complaint could care less about auto open and close. That's mire for soccer moms carrying loads of groceries

Oh and also comfort access working only 50% of the time. I got key in my pocket pressing the release button for 5 mins finally resulting to taking the key out of my pocket and pressing the button and looking like an ass half the time standing there and having the panic sounding alarm go off

Im sure its been said many times in this thread already, but its prob to save weight. If you want to retrofit Im sure you could. Why not add 30lbs to a race car, because your lazy!

I was pretty bummed to find that the E93 is the only one with an automatic trunk latch. I hate having to slam the trunk to close it. I'm going to miss that when I switch to an E92 when I order my next car.

You basically need to hold it just right, roughly 1.94582 seconds and itll open. Any longer and the alarm goes..

Not really annoyed with the automatic opening and closing tho. its like another variation of 6mt vs dct...

My previous RS4 used to pop up all the way. Thinking about it now, it was that car's only good feature. POS of note

So ye, I will forgive BMW for not doing that on the M3. Everything else > Automatic opening bootlid
