Disc & pad longevity

As per title, how many miles are you getting out of brake discs/pads?

While I appreciate it very much depends on driving style, I'm just wondering as mine seem to be lasting a very long time.

I bought the M in Feb 2010 with 15.5k miles on it and was told that it was mainly used as a commute-to-the-station car, so I assume that it had the original discs/pads.

I've now put 20k miles on it in 14 months and the iDrive is still predicting 10k & 13k miles left for front and rear (although it was showing about the same as this in October).

Or am I just driving it wrong?

do not rely on the i-drive ...you need to check the disc and pad with yr eyes as to their condition , on my old car (E60 M50) the i-drive shows 5000 miles to replacing the pads , but when i went for MOT test the disc and pads were well past their limits !!

from yr mileage , I said yr due a change soon !
But check is to see .......just take a fr and rear wheel of one side to inspect.

Ed, on your motorway commute you need to start driving like a cock. Lower your vision so that you look 10m in front of your bonnet and you will become good friends with the brake pedal and your local BMW expert

Nobody prepared to say how long their brakes last?

I'm on 25k miles with iDrive saying 12K left....I'm quite hard on brakes so I'm surprised to be projected this kind of pad life.

its can last up to 65k if you drive everywhere under 30mph
or if you race everywhere it may last only 10k !!
all depends on yr driving style ....but most will last 30-40k
