stock is very tame when idling. But when you first start it in the morning at cold start its got a nice throaty idle. Wish it sounded like that all the time.

The best way to describe it is, it is very civilized at low speeds and does not sound annoying or even different then many other cars but give it some throttle and you will know your in an m3.

My experience:

At idle the best way I can describe it is imagine hearing a helicopter at a not so far but not so close distance. Sounds odd but its tamed powerful drone...

I'm not even sure I understand the question. If you have a hearing problem, our opinions won't really matter. Go find one and listen to it. It's like trying to describe the color red to a blind person.

No need to be rude, if the OP asked a question and if you dont have an answer or a constructive response then back off.

It's a mild bark, but inside the cockpit, you can't really tell it's a performance car. On the outside, it's a louder bark and has a metallic sound during idle.

btw, my best friend in high school, also had a illness when he was a kid and also lost most of his hearing, sad. My old boss who just retired did the copular inplant, he said it changed his life.

I'm not trying to be rude. I'm trying to say that the only way to understand what something sounds like is to hear it yourself. Hearing sounds is subjective, as is any written description of them. Therefore, what I hear might be different that what you hear and that to a third party with admitted hearing issues, our descriptions are useless. Much like your post.

From the description, guessing it could be the radiator fan kicking on and off?

It does a little! But gets a whole lot better when it revs.

BTW, I have a friend of mine, a nurse like me, she had surgically-implanted hearing aids. I think those works better than the regular hearing aids, but they are costly.

This might sound obvious, but the air conditioning makes a pretty crazy sound on cold starts. Is this when your car is warmed up or when you start it? Try turning the climate control off when you start the car. See if that's what it is...

There are many other posts (even a sticky) about the M3s unique sounds. Maybe check it out to see if you see something similar
