I disagree with posts 40 &41. All else equal a car going 100 mph takes 2.6 times as long to come to a stop as one going 62mph. I doubt that the variables delineated would come close to compensating for that difference.

Your point is mute if the person going 100mph has nothing in front of him for a mile while the person going 62 has a car 80 feet ahead. And stopping distance is only one variable.
