Which 18" wheels to get?

Fella's,

I'm gonna go with some new 18" wheels to clear my APracing BBK. I just got new stock tire size PS2's. So gonna keep them. Please suggest some solid good quality wheels. I've looked at alot of different wheels but just can't decide on anything yet. Color will be either Gloss Black or Gunmetal as I think those two colors will look good with Space Gray Metalic. The wheels must clear the BBK without spacers though.

The part I'm having trouble figuring out is what wheels with offset should I go with that will equal the same stance as my OEM 18" wheels with 12mm spacers. Or something close +/- a few Milimeters.

I don't want to spend $$$$$$$ but something under $2000 for a set F/R. Either stock size, Front 18x8.5 & Rear 18x9.5 or a 0.5" wider front/back for my next set of tires down the road. Thanks!

What size is your AP Racing BBK?

Does your 2k budget include the cost of the new tires, or is that 2k for wheels alone?

If you're going for relatively narrow wheels (the stock tire wheel and tire sizes are conservative) because you already have stock sized tires, then there won't be many wheels out there in those widths with an offset that low.

It would have been better to not purchase the tires so that you could run a wider wheel front and rear, as those wheels by nature will be more flush with the fenders, getting you the look you wanted. If you run a wider wheel now, but mount the stock sized PS2's, they'll be very stretched, and will then still look conservative.

I suggest you consider getting the wheel you like most in the correct widths and using spacers if they aren't a custom wheel. There is nothing wrong with spacers. If they are custom, then there's even less to think about.

Stock 245/40/18 and 265/40/18 are within the recommended tire size range for the very nice Apex ARC8 wheels in 18 x 9.5 and 18 x 10.5. They do look a bit stretched, so I when my tires are done, they will be replaced with 265/35/18 and 285/35/18. The Apex ARC8s have back spacing that gives them an aggressive fitment look. No need for spacers.

I have these Apex wheels in 18x10. The offset is 25, and with 275/35 all around, the fitment is fine, no spacers required.

I would recommend looking for a set of used Volk TE37. There are quite a few sets available in the used classifieds. The M3 fitment wheels have been run with quite a few of the members here, and clear many 380mm BBK without any issues.

Yes, the 18x9.5" ET22 front wheel has a low offset that pushes the wheel out further than stock, and would act like a spacer behind the stock wheels (more aggressive look). The same would go with the 18x10" ET25 ARC-8 wheel if used in the rear.

pbonsalb, you are using those stock sizes on the 9.5/10.5" setup? Do you have any photos of that?

Well if for a while the stock size tires I have, which are new, will fit the
ARC-8's 18x9.5 Front and 18x10.5 Rear and still be within limits, then will that work? I really want to get away from spacers and of course I have to clear the APracing BBK also.

I am using the stock 245/265 tires on the 18 x 9.5/10.5 at present. I don't have any pictures but will try to take some and send them to you. Again, not my first choice in tire size for these wheels, but I had the tires.

I can't help the OP with the brake fitment. May depend on # of pistons in the calipers and the diameter of the rotors.

BimmerRob,

You never stated the specs of your AP BBK.

I verified that the above 14.5" 6 piston kit will fit behind any size of the ARC-8 wheel for the E9X M3.

Here are photos of an E90 M3 running stock tire sizes on the 9.5/10.5" setup. The next time you buy tires, you could easily fit wider tires such as 265/285.
