BMW Welt Road Trip 4 Nov 08

Okay...all work and no fun does make Rob a dull guy...so while deployed to Afghanistan I just happened to fly an aeroevac mission to Germany and have a 1 day layover....and thus some time to kill. Thus since another fellow deployed member rented a car and visited the Porsche Factory and museum at Stuggart; I figured why not go down to Munich for a quick road trip and back before I had to return back to theatre. So I rented a car and took off around 1330 for the BMW Welt. About 3.5 hrs later of Autobahn running for the 1st time and I arrived in Munich thankfully via Garman travel Nav and a rented Hertz Audi A4 Avant. Man the autobahn was a blast! Pure driving pleasure! Ran around an 90-95 mph on average (I guess that was slow) but there was a 130km/h (80mph) limit in alot of areas at times and sometimes slower due to traffic and construction. But what was amazing was the whole time I still was getting passed by all manner of vehicles. Vans, trucks, taxis, and all types of Audi/BMW/Mercedes Avants even. Most of which were diesels too (don't see that in the States)! At one point I was up to 120-135mph with the pedal all the way down getting passed by an '07 Porsche twin turbo and another 2004 Porsche Carrera4 followed by a very nice silver/blue (silverstone?) 2008 BMW M3 coupe. I couldn't catch or keep up to any of the last few! LOL However funny thing is I didn't even feel like I was in over my head or anything as far as the driving goes as I had done a PDC delivery of my M3 coupe back in July 2008 and some of that 1/2 day of instruction at the BMW Performance Delivery Factory helped. Or at least I am telling myself that.

At the BMW Welt; the BMW Werks Factory tour was a no go cause we got there late and they weren't doing tours from 3 Nov thru 7 Nov and the Museum closed at 1700 and we got there about 45min later that than. But the BMW Welt was amazing. We toured all the exhibits and even ate at the International Restuarant there. I didn't bring any more cars home by the way...BUT I sure wanted to! Facility is amazing so without further delay tI would recommend a visit IF you ever get over here and an International Delivery IF you're in the market for your next BMW.

Till then here are some more pics for your viewing pleasure...taken with my digital camera and camcorder as well. Video to come later! ENJOY!!
