Parked Car Ventilation?

Has anyone used this feature? Does it work?

I just did a Euro Delivery on an e93 and I thought it was a pretty cool thing when I found out about it from the delivery specialist.

More useful in the winter when you can use the engine residual heat to keep the interior warm while the car is parked

Yeah, I use it. It's not air conditioning, just ventilation, but better than nothing. I set it for 10 minutes before I get off work. So on a hot sunny day the inside of the car is only 110 degrees, instead of 120. Not a huge difference, but like I said, better than nothing.

If you roll down both windows with small gaps, you will be able to tell a huge difference. At least for me.... Too bad there's not an app to remotely start the climate control.....

Man. Don't get me wring, I love luxury too but reading your comment made me think, what would someone who lived in phoenix in late 1800s say if they knew that's what's happening in the world these days. So yeah we have fast vehicles to take us from one place to another, they have automatic climate control to keep you at the temp you desire. You'll listen to your favorite music and a voice with a map will tell you how to reach your distention BUT we are wondering if that climate control thing would start 10 minutes before we get into those vehicles so it's not too cold or too hot.

I just did ED 6 weeks ago and never found this feature. Didn't even know about it. How does it work? Where are the controls for it?

In my 545 it is under "climate" on the idrive and you select "Parked Car Operation". All you do is set a time and the car will circulate outside air into the car to eliminate some of the car oven effect. Very helpful with black leather.

Is the same on an E92?

I don't get mine for a few months still, but desperately need this feature. My car will be blk/blk, and it is HOT in Texas!!

I thought they took REST away from E9X, but some people were coding it back into the ALL button.

you guys are confusing "Rest" with "Parked Car Ventilation"

Rest is residual heat - after certain conditions are met, after you shut off your engine, you push the button and the heater will use the engine heat to warm the cabin without having to turn the power on.

"Parked Car Ventilation" - is what OP was talking about is simply a timer that at certain times of the day, the car will open it's fresh air vents and let in outside air.

Two different things.

^^^^ what he said. Rest makes keeps it warm.

I take a train to and from work so my schedule tends to be pretty reliable. Great feature for me. 545i is black leather. M3 is also will be black leather when it arrives. I also did a light tint on all windows and that helps with the heat tremendously.

Yep; '08s and '09s have a button for the former (newer ones need a special sequence to activate it AFAIK). The latter has always been an iDrive feature. I've never used it even in hot TX because I never leave the car under the sun parked for more than a few minutes (plus with the sudden dust storms here I wouldn't anyway), but seems like a nice feature. Only problem is it drains the battery, so you should charge it after getting home if you use it, especially if you don't drive a long commute.

Thanks for the info. Any idea just how much power it consumes? Does an electric fan start up or is it just the vent actuation at start and end of the specified time?

It has some kind of limit on it, 20 minutes if I remember right. So it won't run for more than 20 minutes to avoid running down the battery. Or, if your battery was already on it's last legs, it would shut it down sooner than that if the voltage got too low. It's smart enough to not leave you stranded with a dead battery.
