engine oil level dropped
Over this weekend I drove about 500 miles, all on highways, and I noticed that my engine oil (as shown by the on-board computer) dropped from full to about 3/4. There are no obvious signs of oil burning. The car is about 3500 miles old. Anybody else noted engine oil level dropping?

Mine made the step from full to 3/4 at 7500 miles.
5500 miles and only burns a few ounces is pretty good. Even at 3500 miles I wouldn't worry about it too much. See how long it takes to get to halfway. You may not have been all the way full after your 1200 mile service. |

The resolution on the system is not too precise, so it may have only used 0.1 liter or so, then the display moved to the lower increment. The lack of a dipstick on a performance car is inexcusable.

When I go to the dealership, I ask them to check it. They'll usually top off. If you are good with your SA, they'll give you a couple quarts of oil. She gave me 2.

Adding oil
Quote:
Some dealers will top it off between services, but technically, it is a consumable, like gasoline.

I go to the dealer if I have time because its free plus my dealer gives a wash coupon to one of the best detailing places in town so I go for one of those any time I can. I also keep a little oil at home. The oil consumption you are experiencing is normal as stated above, Im not sure because Ive only got 1800 miles on the s65 but the s85 seems to burn through it much quicker than that.

The dealer top it up for free! But my SA told me that if I need oil more than 4 times a year, I will have to pay for the extras myself. They only agree to do it 3 times a year... |
