Thanks for posting. You may want to put in the title that this article compares the DCT M3 vs PDK 911. I think this is the first review of the competing automated manuals head to head.

The bog standard 997 was actually quicker than the M3 up to the 150mph mark. Now that really did surprised me, especially since the GTBoard video showed an M3 totally destroy the more powerful 997S.

Another surprise to me was the price difference the two DCT transmissions are in the US, the Porsche is a hack of a lot more expensive in the US but is actually cheaper here in the UK.

Never seen the GTBoard video but perhaps it was the 997.1 S?

Pretty impressive. But i don't understand why they would care about the price if these cars are not really in the same price category to begin with anyway. Especially after they compared the M3 against the 997TT which is twice the amount of a loaded M3 and the M3 beat the 997TT as well. They should've have gotten a loaded 997S with better rims and more power at 385hp vs the loaded M3, that would've have been a better comparison IMO. Not that it would've have won against the M3 since the M3 beat the 997TT it would certainly crush any version of the NA 997 as well. Again price shouldn't matter at this point. Regardless, another impressive victory for the M3. Oh wait, this is Car and Driver. This test is soooo fixed.

Not a big surprise. Let's see how she does against the formidable S version...

1.1 seconds faster around Laguna Seca... ouch! That's a pretty stout beating delivered by the M3.

"The M3 M DCT simply does everything well except tow a hot-dog stand. It may even be the second-best car in the world after the M3 manual."
"Car & Driver"
--- RIGHT ON!!

NOW THIS is what I'm talkin' about! THIS is why I "turned in" my 911 Turbo for the chance to "upgrade" to the new M3. These guys at Car and Driver GET IT!

THIS is how I felt when I 1st drove MY M3. I felt and still feel like it's the BEST car I've EVER driven south of $100,000!!!

As I've said in previous posts (including my intro post), the M3 put the Carrera S to shame in my many test drives of SEVERAL different 911 S's. ..and THAT my friends is why I own a BMW M3 after 4 Porsche's before it!!!

Car & Driver REALLY got it right this time!

for once they didn't complain about iDrive. Looks like BMW finally got it right... also the DCT w/ updated software seemed to work as well.

Wow, the 911 guys really hang on to lap times. The M3 beating the 911 around the track will really sting.

I'm just surprised with the acceleration numbers. The base 911 matches the M3 and pulls to 150 mph quicker? I would figure it would be the reverse, even against the S. Just don't get it, great job in that respect Porsche, excellent work on the new direct injection motor.

That was a surprise. Porsche must be seriously sandbagging HP figures on the new DI engines. I'd expect the "S" to be a monster.

Indeed. The M3 is about 8% better than this base 911 on power to weight. Or said another way the 911 would need about 370 hp to match the M3 on power to weight. The acceleration figures don't make a tremendous amount of sense.

Traction would explain how it (997) was able to match the M3 to 60mph or even up to 100mph but for the Porsche to beat the M3 at the 150 point doesn't add up if the PTW is correct for both cars.

Though the 997 drivetrain would be more efficient.
