My car is a 2011.75 and I have 11k in miles on it. So far, Ive had the following items replaced...

1.) start button paint chipped away
2.) both sides of my shadow line trim was replaced due to paint chipping.
3.) some thin plate along the top of the driver door along the base of the window (I think they called it the window scraper, yet it doesnt touch the window) was replaced due to paint chipping.
4.) My driver side mirror glass turned milky and was replaced.
5.) Drivers seat bracket was replaced due to loud squeek.
6.) Ive had one check engine light for reversing out of a parking spot (got a free update though! LOL)

For the big bucks I paid for my M3, it sure isnt giving me the confidence its going to last very long.

Its not BMW. Its BM TROUBLE U!

Take it to the dealer and see if they will replace it for you. Shouldn't be flaking off this early.

I did. They didnt have it in stock so they had to order it and I have to come back. Im just shocked its peeling off already. I had plans on keeping this car for the long haul, but as of right now, I might just keep it until warranty runs out.

Maybe... But she only drives my car like once or twice a month. Yet her Chevy Tahoe that gets way more use than my M3 does is perfectly fine?

That sucks. Its just not cool that we have to do that. They should be able to take many years of use before doing this.

You may have just gotten one from a bad batch. See how the next one holds up and then you can make a decision about keeping the car. Or just get an extended warranty that will cover everything.

I hope thats the case. So far my new start button is holding up. But you know... this doesnt seem to happen over time. My start button went from perfect to a mess in a matter of days. So far the new one has held up for a month or two.

The fan control issue literally came out of the blue. One day it looked fine, the next I noticed the missing paint. I should get that one replaced next week.

Yea maybe I should invest in that warranty. I do love my car. But as silly as some of these issues might seem, its honestly made me think twice about keeping her for the long term. Just my luck, 1 mile out of warranty, my engine will blow.

Yeah I would honestly just do the warranty for piece of mind since the engine is 20k+ alone and that doesn't even count the big ticket items. I haven't had anyone PM me about the extended warranty or anything yet but whenever you're ready send me an email and I'll talk to our parts / service department to see what kind of special forum pricing I can do on the extended warranties.

my old e92 had 81k miles of hard rough usage, and that never happened to my ac knob dial whatever its called, and i used all the accessories the car had almost on a reg basis... i would definately take it to the dealer and have that replaced. unacceptable.

unless of course u have like really greasy fingers...lol like eating fries and shit when your driving.. lol

Hand lotion causes this. Do u use it? I always advise my wife never to touch a thing in the car if she just applied lotion. It doesn't react well with plastics

it's a little strange the paint is smudged like that already.
just get a replacement piece if it bothers you much.
I do not seem to have any of those on my 09, but i do have very small edge scratches on the start/stop button.

This reminds me of my friend's audis which have horrible switch wear. the switches look terrible after about 40K miles on those models.
In fact, those of you who have ownership experience with VAG will know BMW is actually amazing when is comes to these types of build quality.

BMW switches are hard plastics engraved/light enabled paint on it. Audi/VW use rubber-like material for the switch pieces and paint overlay on top of them. with normal use, it wears so fast...
VAGs have probably the most fancy interior, but it is also the interior that lasts shortest period of time.

This type of stuff pisses me off whenever it happens to a car...it just shouldn't happened.

The same thing happened to the climates control cluster on my P-car.. I was surprised to see that it was a warranty item so I didn't have to pay $500 for a new cluster of controls. I would definitely push to have it covered under warranty. Porche's warranty coverage sucks, so I'd. have to imagine you won't have an issue with BMW.

I have seen this problem a long time ago and it turned out to be some makeup remover that the driver used frequently.

do you use any kind of skin care products or touch any type of chemicals frequently that contain acetone or be slightly acidic? if you have sweaty hands, this also can occur.

Extended warranties don't usually cover cosmetic items like wear and tear. Are you suggesting you know of an extended warranty that would cover things like the OP's button wear issue?

+1

if they covered wear and tear items, they would also cover your brakes/ oil changes/ microfilters... but they don't.
