There's 80mph on I-15 in Utah. I haven't seen 85 posted since I was little. It's about time !

California needs to get with the program!

65mph is way too slow.

Autobahn...if Americans could only not be retarted and follow the rules of the road and pay attention when we drive. I could make a trip up to my inlaws in Belgium in 5 hours; same distance here on my way to my parents takes me 7 hours and I don't get Trappist beer at the end of the drive! Where did I go wrong?

The only difference between this new highway and other large highways in the country is that you're now more "allowed" to drive at the speeds you normally drive on these large interstates. On I-81 in VA, the speed limit is either 65 or 70, but people do 85-90 all the time...

Exactly. Vision test every other renewal here. I guess they reason that if you can see, then you can still drive.

Grandmother can see just fine. She missed a parking spot by 5 ft. yesterday. Lane discipline? Don't think so.

I totally agree! There should be more emphasis on educating people on highway driving. Cannot stand left lane hoggers going 50. If everybody passed on the left side (only) US highways would be so much safer.
I travel to Portugal pretty often and it is such a bliss to drive on highways where poeple respect the fact that you only pass on the left and only travel on the left lanes when passing. Faster and safer!

I had heard that the speed limit was set a while ago because of fuel savings rather than safety ( even though it also helped in that issue), but is this true or is strictly safety?

Anyway, I agree if you have the money to play, we should be able to!!

Saved me the correction

Will be good for Houstonians headed to the Austin F1 COTA

After driving older and cheaper cars even for a couple days the speed limits make more sense. The control I have in the m3 at around 90mph is really similar to 65mph in one of these cars.

If I could change things I would implement a speed limit per lane...say 60, 70, 80?

It would be great to have some type of super highway that has limitations on what specs a car must have to drive on it

How fast do you guys generally drive on the highway? I was really surprised to read that post about "how can you cruise at 90 in a 65?". I would say when the left lane is clear I cruise 90-100 with bursts of an additional 20mph or so every time I drive on a highway. The car doesn't feel right for me under 75 on the highway. It feels way too slow and boring.

For those of you that drive on the slower side, do you guys go to the track? If not, just curious as to why you chose a performance car.

Yes, and very carefully. And lots of times I hold back when I see a 'zombie' driver.

Track is the safe way.

You really think that would work?

I'm surprised no one has mentioned the REAL reason why the speed limit is 65... Money!!!!! All it is-is a revenue generator. There are multiple studies and real world evidence showing that higher speed limits lead to less accidents and less fatalities.

Yes it would work...in an idealistic world that is. Why dont we have an autobahn? Because we have way too many bad drivers that's truth. Americans, and I mean a big majority of people who live in the united states, suck at driving. Yes skilled drivers have a chance of crashing and blah blah but like I said only in an idealistic world the speeds are definitely posted to make profit. They arent trying to keep us safe first...that's a second or third priority for the government
