Anyone else find the M3 partial auto dim side mirrors terrible?

I was searching around to see if anyone else had talked about this and was supprised no one hadn't.

On my 335i the whole outside mirror dimmed to avoid glare and it was a fantastic feature that worked very well.

The M3 on the other hand only dims the central portion of the outside mirrors.

Maybe this was a technical limitation but it really seems like BMW tried to save ~$40 here and cheap out.

The thing is that there is little point in having auto dimming side mirrors if a portion of them don't dimm. That just makes the glare more suprising and worse when it happens and defeats the whole purpose of the system. It's like having a plastic cup with a hole in the bottom that is 90% sealed against water leaks...

Am I the only one that was dissapointed with this, or does everyone really think it's acceptable for a $70,000 car to have a half baked feature found in perfect working order on even the 318i sedan base model?

lol I agree on that part

my tsx ergonomics were way better in some parts compared to the E90 in general.
when i first saw that dimming mirror, i thought to my self "did bmw really have to do this way?.. I mean...accord dimming mirror was way better than this"

but again, nothing is perfect, I can live with that as long as I drive the M!

Never really noticed that. I don't drive a lot at night though.

I love the way it leaves the outer edge in dimmed. That way I know if it's working or not. Whn I drive the 535 or 335 I have no idea of knowing if it's even on or not and find myself constantly checking

I actually prefer the M3's dimmed side rear view mirrors.

I have always noticed this ever since my first 09 M3, I don't find it bothersome at all, I just notice it as they start to dim....... My 06 330i was dimmed all the way to the edge.

Funny thing is that the mirrors on my brothers RS4 are just like the M3, there is a border around the edge that is not auto dimming.

Meh, it's a tiny sliver and has no impact.

Agreed - never have had problems with glare with the sliver at all. And it let's me know they are working.

I think it looks cool and never had glare because of it so it seems to be doing its job
