Hit and run...rear ended...
Well, the good thing is, I wasn't driving my M3 yesterday...doesn't take the anger away being my 330i, any car for that matter.
Basically, got rear-ended yesterday, and the lady was trying to run. I was able to block her from leaving on several attempts, but god helps that a firing truck was running down the street and everyone had to move to the side, and she managed to run away after that. Surprisingly, no damage to my car as far as I can see, I felt OK though I definitely felt the impact. I did write down her license plate number. Stupid workaholic me decided to run to a meeting and deal with this afterwards, then realized cops won't file a police report unless you file it in person at a police station...which I couldn't manage to do as I had to leave to another client 40 miles away for another meeting. I already know filing a police report is close to pointless...this is no different than me writing down your license plate number and said you hit me...BUT...I just feel wrong about not doing anything about it. What would you do?

Its always good to get a police report but it isnt an absolute necessity..Call your insurance company..tell them you were rear ended and the driver fled but you got her license plate number..they can find who her insurance carrier is and help you setup a claim against her as a hit and run..
Dont let her get away with that crap....and the next time you look at your rear bumper.. I think you will notice more damage than you thought.. |

You go to the police station with the licence plate and tell em what happened. They will probably go to the address and if the descriptions match then they will get you to I.D her. After that it's the courts job to give her what she deserves.
Cars a car, at least you are okay. |

I would go to the police and report it. Then call your insurance and explain to them. I know my sister got nailed for a hit and run because they matched the paint that her car left on the truck she hit....silly sister.

Sorry to hear this happened. What you should do is obvious however.

And...what if you don't report it; she takes a shot at reporting it that YOU fled the scene, and some day you get a knock at your door by a police investigator?
Get your side of the story recorded. (unless you can think of a real downside, do it soon.) .

Always get a police report. With one you can file your uninsured motorsit on your ins policy. Its very cheap to keep a low deductible on uninsured motorist. Without the report you have to file under collision
