At speed in Hanover is great. They've worked on my car and many other M's.

"racing credentials"... let us just say things aren't always what they seem... and again.... ohhh if you only knew. Find a customer they "took racing" and mention At Speed or Bob Miller and see what they say (be prepared to duck the punch), and that includes Volvo Cars NA. Ohhhhh if you only knew. There hasn't been anybody there for many years that had anything to do with the old "real" Volvo race team and the only time they had anything positve happen was when they were able to keep Bob Miller out of the mix. The staff there turnsover like roasted chickens on a rotisserie, for good reason. It is a good front. When you have someone front the money for a shop like that (family pity, unwitting "investor" or whatever) it sure can look like you know what you're doing. Ohhh if you only knew. If you got out unscathed, car in tact without parts scavenged off of it, if it runs and has tight nuts and bolts...consider yourself lucky. Run far, run fast. Open the closet and the skeletons will just start falling out all over the place. |

Designo Motoring in Dulles, VA. It's a about a 1:30 hour drive from Baltimore, but they're great. They're site is currently down due to reconstruction, but if you'd like to see some cars they've taken care of Google Designo Motoring and there should be a myspace result where you can see some pictures of what they've worked on. They deal with most athletes and celebrities in the DC area.

I recommend Induktion Motorsports (www.4induktion.com) in Severn . They installed my springs for a great price and did a very good job. They specialize in Audi/BMW/Porsche/VW.

I have been burned by other big name shops in the Texas area which is one of the reasons I leave my cars stock down to the air filter. That way I don't have to mess with the bs...

+1 induktion - great shop with an e30 race prepped m3 in the bay. My buddy and I both got a set of H&R springs put on at the same time. Very cool, knowledgeable guys.

It USED to be a real factory sponsored race team with real engineer level techs. Back then the "owner" Bob wasn't even allowed to talk to them or they would all quit b/c he was such an annoying a-hole who tried to act like Roger Penske but in reality was more like a circus chimp who was a total embarrassment at the track. Once Volvo NA realized a lot of the money was "unaccounted for" shall we say, they pulled the plug, all the real techs immediately left and went back to the likes of Champion/Audi Sport NA LMP1 team, Dyson Porsche Spyder LMP2 team, etc. and Bob tried to re-invent himself as a street tuner shop with a building daddy bought him and some boners he got from Lincoln Tech (actually most of them fired from TPC / Mike Levitas) and he has all this old race stuff laying around and some fancy track Porsches and a rig his daddy bought him or that belong to "At Speed investors" bilked into giving him money... a bunch of supposedly unpaid for and past due Dinan inventory... has a car show and a lot of people come around and go "ooooohhhhh a real race shop"... things aren't always what they seem. Someone writes "Ian Bass seems legit" as support for At Speed.... yeah he is.... and his family spends legit money on his racing activites and he is a good driver. Go ahead, call / email him and ask him about At Speed / Bob Miller. He will likely tell you Bob stole a bunch of his money and made promises about the race-worthiness of a car he would be driving that he couldn't keep.... Bob promised him things that Bob himself didn't even have a clue what he was talking about. Ian paid top dollar and got a retired 2 year old Racer's Group car, haphazardly and cheaply built to period spec.s and a bunch of wanna-be-a-race-tech newbies that didn't know shiyat to "run" it. And what happened.... the car broke nonstop and Ian pulled up stakes and went to spend his money at a real team. Trust Ian is legit and he is to this day embarrassed that he ever fell into that scam-pit, and he is right to be, he should have done 30 min.s of due dilligence and he wouldn't have fallen for that scam. The Sweedspeed article ... yes that was the ligit part of the whole deal that unfortunately was forced to bear the name of Bob Miller's "company".... Bob had next to zero to do with that other than having been the one to talk Volvo into giving him money and subsequently reliable sources-say stole a lot of it. Bob miller couldn't have taken a lubnut off that car much less engineer it and he wasn't even allowed to talk to the people who did b/c they all knew he was a scamming sheister and hated his guts and would quit at the drop of a dime if he even thought about meddling in their work at all. Call Phillip Martien... he was the next guy they "took racing" after Ian... different series, a top-dollar-paying newbie driver, but same scam, same nightmare result. Lasted about 3 races before he realized he was being scammed and promptly left for way more legit team that netted him third in class at following year's Rolex 24. Ask any of the guys from K-Pax Volvo, the current Speed World Challenge Volvo team... the owner knows Bob because Bob scammed him when he innocently well-meaningly good-heartedly tried to put some of his money and lifelong love for Volvos behind his burgeouning interest in sports car racing.. and the whole of the K-Pax team that this guy founded after realizing Bob Miller and At Speed were a hoax and left... they all know of Bob / At Speed too b/c they can't get squat in support from Volvo NA Corp. b/c Volvo was burned and embarressed so bad by Bob / At Speed... they don' want anything ever ever ever to do with any that has anything even remotely to do with motorsports in US.... thanks Bob. Want to see real race shop in driving distance? Go see TPC on rt.1.... they will look at you like you just came off a spaceship from mars is you aren't ready to write five figure check for something...and the place is dirty as hell.... fabrication sediment thick enough to kick with your foot... will ruin a paint job in a day if left in there uncovered...but they aren't about paint and don't care... they will tell you if you care about your piant you're in the wrong place... if you want to get the best lap time you can.. get out your check book and they will deliver. Or..... go see Ivan at IMA in Chantilly.... just as if not more capable (no Rolex 24 win under his belt like TPC though). Ivan is a real race shop. He could literally make about any stock not-cast hard part in any BMW excepting prob. block, piston, rods and crank in an afternoon... engine dyno.... computational fluid dynamics... MoTec expert to nth degree... that is a real race shop. At Speed... enjoy the show... but don't believe the hype. You want to take your car there b/c you think it is legit b/c he has some race laying around, pictures on the wall and some nice cars from other people who haven't been burned by Bob YET.... then go ahead.... don't say you weren't warned. |

I just had a Dinan LSD installed on my 335i at At Speed. The experience was wonderful, the people friendly and nice, and the work was top notch and delivered early for exactly the price i was quoted.
