Pacific Rim movie
Anyone seen this movie yet?
I took my GF's kid to see it a couple days ago. WOW! That's one hell of a movie! OK acting, special effects are off the hook. I love sci-fi, loved watching Godzilla when I was younger, along with Ultraman, Johnny Sakko and his Giant Robot, Transformers, Robotek, and a bunch of other newer Anime like Cowboy Beebop, Appleseed, and others. This movie bested all those put together. The robots, monsters, and fighting scenes were awesome. Check this movie out if you get a chance. |

I don't do the theater very often, in fact, I've only seen 3 or 4 movies at the theater in a decade or more. I've seen many a movie at home though, either rented or on-demand.
The last movie I was totally stoked about was "Hardware", maybe 25 years ago, because it had GWAR (a favorite band of mine) and Iggy Pop as a radio announcer in it, along with being a cool sci-fi movie, BUT, Pacific Rim I was VERY stoked about seeing. Not the best movie ever by any means, but I was completely entertained. |

Honestly, it's the type of movie where you have to check your mind in at the door. There is NOTHING wrong with that. As an 18 year old, testosterone filled male, I enjoyed it immensely. It's like Transformers. The storyline doesn't do much for you, but you LOVE to watch giant robots duke it out.

Pretty much every review I saw online said it was a must see. I honestly felt a little dumber after seeing it.
I saw the pre-screening last week. While the special effects and CGI were very well done, the acting was some of the weakest I've ever seen in a movie with that kind of a budget. Half the time I couldn't tell if Stacker Pentecost had an American, British, or Australian accent. It felt like a cross between Halo, Transformers, and Godzilla but with some of the worst character development of any movie I've ever seen. It also seemed like it was about half an hour too long. My conclusion: It's another "Avatar" movie. Great special effects and CGI, but a horrible story line with pathetic acting and character development. |

I puked after looking at trailer. Seems to me like a video game blown into a big screen.
Not planning to watch in theatres

Best movie this summer by far.
Critics liked it, good reviews on rottentomatoes and IMDB. IMDB got a 8/10. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1663662/ |

It looks like a shitty version of transformers (I think it's made by the same director). I liked transformers but I think this movie looks dumb

In fact, it was so terrible, that I’d dare to say it was a comedy. Oddly enough, the more I think about it, the more inclined I am to see it a second time. It is quickly becoming one of those movies that I love to hate, yet hate to love. You're absolutely correct. However, this movie (at least to me) was almost exactly like the majority of Michael Bay movies.....spend the entire budget on special effects and pretty colors then hire budget actors to help ruin the story. I'll end the thought on this: The special effects are some of the best I’ve seen in a while. If you’re going to bother watching it, it’s definitely worth seeing on the big screen. While the story and acting are crap, I did leave the theater in a state of confusion. I’d imagine that if you went and saw it drunk you’d probably think it was the best movie in a long time. BTW- I won't spoil the ending, but I literally laughed at the closing shot. Also, stay for the credits. There is one final sequence that brought a laugh out of me. |

The Transformers movies fucking sucked balls. I could care less about the human element of it. All of the movies shit the bed. The transformers story is huge, deep, with tons of rich material, however the writers added way too much human character development, thinking that I gave a shit about his mother's comedic genius. It only ended up weighing down the movie.

I actually think the bad acting and storyline may have been intentional as someone suggested. All of the Japanese Godzilla movies had terrible acting, and Pacific Rim seemed to follow a similar ghung-ho style of many japanese monster movies. I really don't think they were going for oscar winning acting in this flick, maybe just enough to link the kick-ass fighting and special effects scenes together.
Think about it, why would they build robots to fight these monsters instead of using our smart weapons? We could have sunk missiles into each eye socket, and every other orifice all in one shot and taken them out in seconds, but they instead use these kickass bitchin fighting robots! I grew up on the terrible acting of Godzilla and many other japanese and anime movies, so I liked the acting and style of this movie a lot, but I can see how some might not, if they don't like, or haven't seen the style of acting from the older monster movies. The ending was totally standard Godzilla ending. Even so, as I've said, I was very entertained. |

But the special effects IMO was one of the best. The details is incredible. You can even see the paint chip on the jaegers. |

Yeah, I was thinking. We have missiles designed to bust bunkers, they penetrate deep and then explode on the inside. Why can't we do that to them?
