Leaf blower
Just picked this up off amazon and was wondering if you guys think its powerful enough to dry the car?

More than enough, the question is how well the M3 is protected? Does it bead after rinsing? The leaf blower is very effective if so.

Pretty sure that is the exact one I have. Its light and easy to use. I use ear plugs though, as when I am drying the roof, I tend to lift it almost as high as my head, and it is loud. To loud for comfort.
When you have a fresh coat of wax (Swissvax currently for me), water beads off pretty well. All in all, you probably could hand dry faster, but only because with the blower, I tend to try and get water out of every door jam, light fixtures, etc. And its only a theory, but I feel drying this way, instead of using a towel makes my waxes last longer. |

OP: You are golden with that leaf blower.... I have been using it on my cars over 10+ years.... It works great especially on the wheels!

I'm going to fully detail my car (claybar, compound, polish wax etc...) so i want to keep washing it properly to avoid swirl marks. i have jerez black, which is probably the hardest color on the m3 to maintain so hopefully this helps

If the car is not protected well, no matter how strong of a leaf blower you use on the paint, the water will not want to come off. If the paint is well maintained, smooth and protected, the water will pretty much fly right off the paint and some blotching with a towel is all that would be necessary to dry it up. Malek

Blowers FTW!
Like Martin said if you have good protection on it the water will roll right off. I'd also look into a water de-ionizer as well that way no mineral deposits are left behind. You can get in-line ones pretty cheap that are disposable, just need to use it on the final rinse...

The guy who details my car (and gives me advice to do it myself) instructed me to get one with at least 200mph blow speed (I laughed as I typed blow speed). I found one at home depot that fit the bill for about ~$50. I have used it 3 times so far and it is a great way to dry. I blast the mirrors first then go after the rest of the car starting from the top. My car is due for a wax here in the next month or so.
Owning a black car sucks as swirl marks will show up so easily. I don't want to have to correct the paint too often as that can get very expensive. Thus I am taking one more potential swirl mark/wash out of the equation with the leaf blower. I could certainly dry it faster by hand with a mf towel, but its just not worth the possibility of swirl marks for me. I love my car when it looks pristine. |

I would wash, speed dry, then blow out the cracks and crevices, then spritz a QD/spray wax then finish drying
if you have a water de-ionizer, then leaf blow the whole thing! |

I used the older version of the toro power sweep this weekend to dry my car for the first time after I had just washed with dawn. There was absolutely no water beeding at all and after using the blower I just had to dab up a few stray water drops. I was very impressed and don't think you would need any more power.
