E90 M3 Fuel Door Not Flush With Body

UPDATE: 8/23/14: Post #16

Quote:
Okay. So I have found the actual problem. And no, it wasn't as simple as the spring magnet. And I am still not sure of the solution.

When you open the fuel door, and see the black plastic piece surrounding the fuel spout, THAT it the part that is actually not pressed fully into the body. I have attached a photo that shows this. I can press this plastic piece inwards about 1-2mm which is all I need, but I am unsure why it is not staying depressed, or how to keep it depressed...

Any insight is appreciated!
So i've noticed this for a while now, but never really cared enough to find a solution.

My fuel door seems to be not completely flush with the rest of the body of my car... Mainly the lower portion. Is it possible to adjust the "clicking" mechanism?

Has anyone ever seen or experienced this issue?

Here's a few pics (completely closed):

And one with it opened, if helpful...

Any help is appreciated!

Thanks

Hard to tell from that angle and with the lighting but my E90 fuel door does not stick out that much...

Can you take a close up with a better angle? Also, open it then take another picture of the hinge that's holding the fuel door.

Had your car any body repairs (accident) around the fender with the fuel door ?
Looks also that the color of the fuel door is darker ? Not sure...

No body work or accidents. I think it's just the photo that makes it looks darker

It could be a combination of your hinge and the fuel door release not being aligned correctly and / or damaged.

When I get home from work I'll snap pics of my hinge then you can tell me how it looks compared to yours.

Cool, thanks. I am thinking that it could possibly be the magnetic spring...

Looking at how the door's gap is greater near the spring, id have to agree. The hinge is pretty simple, so if something was damaged, you would get rattling and probably worse alignment to the body.

Once I shut the fuel door and it did not sit flush. I discovered that the locking mechanism was prelocked if that makes sense and thus didn't lock when I pushed the door down. I think I had to manually unclick the locking mechanism with the door open and then it clicked down fine when I closed the door, I think.

May not be the same situation as yours, but throwing it out there.

No that's not the issue. I can close and open it properly.

Looks like someone tried to yank it open when locked and bent the hinge.

As stated in the latest update, I don't think it's the hinge, but the entire black housing surrounding the fuller spout.
