M-DCT is coming!!!

My dealer just rang me and told that I can preoder a car with M-DCT, March production.
He said the production start has been confirmed by BMW AG from the beginning of March. He estimated the price at 2-3 EUR (2.95-4.43 kilo-bucks).
I am preordering the beast!

Great news! Let us know when you get final confirmation and a manufacture number.

Thanks for letting us know so quick.

So does that mean March deliveries to the US will have M-DCT? Or will we have to wait until may or june?

As the Dealer told me: end of March - early April delivery.
I think this is pretty much predictable since MB has the same schedule for C63 deliveries. So given the advantage of MB tranny vs the BMW stick (though a great fun for some of us including me - a disadvantage for many).
A lot of my friends seriously considered MB vs M3 since all the reviews were very favourable and it's better tuned for every-day use, because of the good auto-tranny.
So I think all this facts have spured up BMW introducing the DCT.
And it makes me happy!

Pushing the M-DCT to a sooner date from by BMW is a good move to compete with the C63. I myself will by buying and M-DCT. However, based on previous posts and delays from other manufacturers guarantees that an accelerated M-DCT launch will have some bugs that will be addressed in and M-DCT2 shortly there after. Considering how important the transmission is to the car, I think i will wait a few months after the M-DCT is released before greeting one to make sure there are no major flaws.

This is both good and bad for me. I've been a manual guy all my life. I've even ripped on my good friend who went SMG with his E46. But now, after hearing about quicker, smoother shifts that this tranny promises, I find myself on the fence....

My dealer told me the same

I was over at the dealer last week, and while we were of course talking about the new M3. My dealer told me the reason why the launch has not happened yet, is because of the wait for the M-DCT.

He said, it will be available right from the beginning, which only confirms what is being discussed in this thread.

Best regards,

CSL

THat's awesome...I sure hope it's true. Although it may be wise to wait a few months for the bugs to be worked out (M-DCT), i'm not sure I can. That's what the warranty is for.

makes sense with release of the sedan right around that time. like i've said, doubt bmw would release the sedan version without an auto type transmission as the sedan is theoretically more "family" oriented. now time to call my dealer and ask to hold my order till march!

Preliminary but great news from as far as Russia and as close as Colorado. I am very happy and hopeful to get M-DCT on launch in the US. I guess I am still skeptical though. Dealers can be more in the know than us, but it is not that way 99% of the time.

Thanks dakulov and welcome to the board!

I hope this is true!!! However getting a first generation M-DCT is a bit questionable...i will definitely get a extended warranty if i choose to go with M-DCT.

I am not worried at all.

1. The design will be as well developed and tested as other BMW/Getrag units.
2. Consumers are not really guinea pigs for BMW R&D.
3. The car will be under full warranty.
4. You can leave the question as to an extended warranty until the default warranty is about to expire.

If one always waited for 2nd year production of a car or major car feature one would never be able to enjoy the novelty aspect.

i was reading the articles posted and it said that the M-DCT will be available in march. Here is the quote

"There are other flaws, too. The manual gearshift, though quick and percise, is a bit passe in this day and age. BMW should have waited to launch it with the dual-clutch-semi-auto paddel-shift box as an option. The latter available in March."

---

I also noticed whoever wrote the article about the M3 Vs Cayman used the term Beemer instead of Bimmer. From my understanding isnt Beemer refering to the motorcycle? This makes the articles a bit sketchy...

That's exactly what I was told and discussed with a BMW NA rep at the LA Auto show

Then look at it this way.. at the very worst its going to only be slightly better than the latest SMG. At best its a lot better than SMG.... either way its a positive!

Very true, but lets hope its more then a little bit better then SMG. As much as I truly do love SMG in the E46, one of the highlights every time I drive our M3 in fact! I think alot of people are looking for something much different then SMG, theres never a point when you can honestly forget about changing gears and even though it becomes second nature, be a n00b with throttle and it can be quite embarrassing driving off at traffic lights. I kinda see that as a plus, but then our M3 doesn't get daily driven.

I'm positive BMW has DCT right and it will be one amazing piece of kit....I still remember the look on my dads face the night he came home from the dealer and realized he'd made a big mistake! Seeing a two week old E36 M3 on a flat bed wasn't much fun either...
