From Tire Rack:
Hoosier: 10.2" Section Width 9.3" Tread Width 25.6 Diameter PS2 or PSC: 9.8" Section Width NA Tread Width 25.8" Diameter Looks the same to me. Maybe even wider tread width or very close on the Hoosier.

Yes, just read through some reviews. If they are heat cycled correctly and inflated properly, they look like a very good track tire- fast, consistent and long lasting. The only issue is feedback at the limit may not be as good as others, but that seems to be inflation and temp related.

With 19's you have Hoosiers and Cups as the basic choice.
Most of the other choices are not in 19's yet..... You can also go to Turner and get used slicks...... Of the top two choices, Hoosier's have more stick, but are short lived. The Cups might be a better 1st R-comp tire choice, and you can drive to the track with them too. I have 18's and square 275 NT-01's myself.

You are limited with the 220s. Upgrade to a set of ZCP wheels and you can run Toyo R888s in 265/30/19 and 295/30/19s.

For reasons stated above, the 220's are it for track wheels. I'm keeping them for resale, and no more room for other wheels.

....................And you're worried about resale? You don't think you can pick up a set of OEM 18's or 19's when it's time to sell the car? No offense at all intended I'm just trying to help and STRUGGLING to understand how running 19" Hoosiers will save you money. If you are driving so fast and so hard that the best street tires won't do, you should probably at least a set of 18s because those hoosiers will last you a couple days max when pushed to the limit. Last I checked, square 18's don't take up more space than 19's AND you can rotate tires. Last edited by smmmurf; 07-09-2011 at 05:03 PM.. |

Now, as to the expense of a track day- insurance, entry fee, pads, gas and tire wear it is easily a $1000 per day. It is easy to go crazy, but like I said, who knows what the future will bring, maybe this is the wrong approach to upgrade slowly and keep it simple, but dedicated track wheels, followed probably next by upgraded brakes etc., etc should wait until I jump into the deep end with more than three track days a year- which is all I will probably do this year. So the PSC's are a good comprimise for not only the track days, but also maybe an autocross or some fun mountain tours that we do here as well. For each his own, thanks for input. You may still be proven right in the future!

I know you are looking for simple, but even if you only do 3 or 4 events per yr, at a minimum, you will want a dedicated set of track/wheels tires, race pads, race brake fluid, extra neg camber. 19s as dedicated track wheels will work but going this route is hardly simple because of the limiting tire choices, and expense associated. You will run the cups which are ok but quite frankly imo are lame compared to cheaper, longer lasting, grippier tires like a NT01... and you can only do these tried and true r comps in 18 sizes. I just picked up a set of apex arc 18 in wheels for my m3 and will run the BFG R1 tire. Stagger for me. Anyway, im going with the bare minimums on my m3 since like you, will only track a few times per yr.
Sell the 19s and pick up the apex wheels (1380 for the set shipped). Get some R1s (1200 for the set) and youre set. Easy resale later on. Do this is now and save in the long run!

Just pick up a used set of 220s that come with PS2 rubber So you get the resale value, and you don't have to worry about mounting, balancing etc Keep in mind the apex arc 8s are light and you will be a little faster I mean if you're spending all this money, surely you want to be fast Plus the apex arc 8s are in demand and will be an easy sell

This is the last of Apex Arc8s that were on sale on the forum They were sold in 1 hour http://www.m3post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=557031 So if you do get them they'll be easy to sell And just be on the lookout for oem wheels about 3 months befor you sell
