All you really have to do is pull the knob straight up and off, then put the new one on there. It will require some strength. Pull STRAIGHT UP, not at an angle. The OEM x9x shift knob and boot is one piece, so you will have to put a custom boot to match. I have a zcp knob on my 6mt and I had to have a custom boot added to match.

But yes, the dealer will take the knob off and replace it with a OEM performance knob, but they will not create a custom boot for you. I don't think they will install an aftermarket shift knob though.

That's awesome. I knew efforts had been made for getting the shift lights to work on the Tach that DCT cars come with but to no avail.

Yah I think that was the issue with DCT models. Also the wheel doesn't hold memory if you have DCT too. I've had the wheel for 4 years and it's been perfect every time!

I've yet to see anything that beats the F10 M5 shift knob. OEM quality, backlit, weighted, and looks like it belongs.

I have the UUC RK6 SS knob and it I can't say enough good things about it. It totally transforms the shifting and makes the gearbox so much smoother and shifting so much cleaner. IMHO it's a must-have and makes the stock shift knob seem like a temporary insert.

I tried the M peformance knob for 2 days and found the height too low for me so I reverted back the ZHP.

Although from an aesthetic perspective, the M performance knob complemented my alcantara steering wheel much better.

Personally I don't like the feel of the OEM one. Feel it's awkwardly shaped in my hand. Have not had the chance to feel any others, so I'd like to hear fellow owners opinions!
Go with the F10 M5 knob. It's shorter and weighted nicely. It also lights up and has the same connector as e92 M3. Just swap the bases and your good to go.

There are also a few diy's on here as well.

Doesn't it get scalding hot in summer?

I like a tall shifter so nothing beats the stock one for me.

Not gonna lie, yes it can get hot, but it doesn't happen too often and it does dissipate the heat pretty quickly when you get in and AC goes on. But, for me, I love the feel, it's the right weight, and the metal finish looks cool, so that far outweighs the small issue of it getting a little warm once in a while.

I have an ARC titanium shifter so I know your pain. I have a cloth sunglasses pouch that I put over the knob when the car is parked. It helps a bit.

No sir, I got the boot from LeatherZ.com. The quality is top notch, pretty much like the IND stuff without the massive price tag.
