M3 vs. 370z

3000lbs and 350hp can be lots of fun. Any feedback?

Car Mag caught a snap of it at a presentation. I made a thread about it last night. Here's the pic:

CAR Mag said it would be 4 inches shorter and have the 3.7l engine from the G37. Sounds good I'm sure the pic is real because it matches spypics of a shorter prototype.

Actually according to R&T Jun 08. New 370Z will weigh about 3010lbs. So this new machine will be a rocket.

According to R&T, the new one is on Jenny Craig.

Now, I question myself if I should have held off my purchase.

u fail brother man. it's on a serious diet for a while. in any case WTF does a Z have to do with a M3?

it's geared towards Cayman S, but then Cayman S is getting turbo

I drove the Z when it first came out....it performed well, but fell WAY short in build quality....cheap plastic everywhere, rough ride and lots of squeeks-rattles...

The Cayman is getting a turbo....I find that very unlikely..since it will bump the performance of the Cayman above the 911...which Porsche has said repeatedly it will NOT do...the same thinking about why they DON'T put an LSD in the Cayman...

+1

Although at one time the Z was my dream car, I've grown up. The 370 looks uglier than the 350. I thought the 300Z was the best looking of the bunch, and that says a lot because the original 240Z was a nice looking car. But, since then it's just gone downhill on the looks.

However, mechanically the 370 sounds hot. I bet it will be a blast to drive. I always liked the way the Nissan's drive. But like one of the posters above pointed out there is too much plastic. Although the fit is pretty good, they use very cheap plastics and it just does not feel special like a BMW. If I were younger and poorer (why does this go together?) the 370 might be on my wish list.

I remember reading an article stating that the Cayman was to gain a turbo but the reasons behind this are not forth coming. For sure the 997 will surely suffer because of this as too many Porsche customers the main reason for picking the 911 is it's added performance and the LSD, if Porsche give both the the Cayman Turbo then a lot will chose it instead as it's noticeably the better balanced car and the nicer to drive.

In the duel between Z370 vs M3, my money still stands with the Beemer, it's a class act and like it or not it is a closer competitor to the GTR then Nissan will admit. Unless the Z gains the big brother's gearbox and some of it's trickery I can't see it competing with the M3..............more likely the Z4M is it's true rival.

I think as far as a simple drag race it would be close - if it comes in around that weight... as far as a run through the twisties, if they can dial in the suspension as well as nissan did on the GT-R it seems like it'll be a nice car. I still wouldn't buy one for the main fact that it's a nissan - I don't discriminate against other manufacturers, but their quality is sub-par as far as fit/finish goes, it'll be interesting to see if this intensifies with the lower weight. More importantly, I like driving something that is somewhat exclusive. I can't even get the mail without seeing almost every color drive by...

Regardless, it's good to see a company lower the weight of their cars instead of steadily gain weight every generation.
