Purple Front Tint/Heat Reduction

I've started to notice some M3 owners running what appears to be purple tint in the front. I assume this is some sort of heat reducing tint. Anyone know about this/have experience with it? I am looking to reduce overall heat inside the car as well as replace my rear tint which is coming up from the dot matrix..

Interested as well. I have been considering Llumar Air 80 for windshields. I don't know what tint gives that purple hue. It appears to be more like an anti-glare coating similar to what you have on eye glasses or watch crystals.

I had the windshield replaced because of a crack. It was replaced with non oem glass and has a heat reduction layer. Makes it look blue/purple in some lights. Usually, it has a slight black tint look.

Interested in this as well. Been looking to do something with my windshield to at least protect the interior since I park outside!

Btw, a review on the Llumar Air 80...sounds terrible:

I had my windshield replaced with the one that has the extra layer as well, it does have the purple tint color to it in certain lights. In all honesty I can not tell any real difference in the amount of heat this film keeps out.

This peaked my interest so I did some Googling last night. A lot of people asked this same question: should I get an ultra-light tint for the windshield?

The overwhelming answer was not to do it. Those who had shelled out for it complained about poor visibility at night or in inclement weather, and that the overall clarity of the windshield went down. It's less noticeable on the sides and rear because you are not looking out of those for more than a split second. I would say that of the 10 or so owners that wrote of their experience, only 2 or 3 said they liked it and kept it.

These lighter films are very interesting, however. If you don't like or don't want the look of dark tints, but still want the IR and UV rejection, they do seem to work well. The 3M Crystalline series seems to be the top dog right now, with even better IR & UV rejection than the Llumar 80. I'm actually thinking of doing this on my new car!

This looks great. If there is a sort of tint that would serve the same purpose that would work perfect.

I have 3M crystalline on the front windshield. It's been on for a few years now and it's a major difference between not having it. It's very clear and not visible at all. The heat rejection is noticeable immediately after the install.

There's better products that have came out between the time I've had it installed. I heard Spectra is really good and clear as well.

Also, the UV protection kept my Alcantara interior from fading.

That interior is unreal! Any pictures of the exterior? Does it make the front windshield noticeably darker? Thanks for sharing man.

It didn't make the front darker. My side windows and rear are dark but I plan on changing them out for the new lighter film in the future. The technology is so good with heat rejection now that you don't have to go so dark. It is a bit pricey though. I highly recommend getting the best stuff you can get if you have carbon or alcantara interior in a hot climate. Carbon starts to bubble and warp from heat and UV. Alcantara fades from UV. So it's worth it to pay the extra.

I appreciate the insight! Just started following you. It gets pretty hot here in Florida as well, definitely want to protect the interior better as well as my carbon interior pieces.

Ummm dont know what they are talking about. Maybe Im blind or not sensitive to this but Ive had Llumar Air 80 on my windshield for almost 8 years and never noticed this kind of problem. The only issue I have is there are now tiny bubbles where my radar detector was mounted hence why I am interested in a more built in solution if available. Oh and my windshield looks as if it got sandblasted at this point in its life so theres that too.

Not sure of the exact specs, but it was installed by Safelite and it's the normal glass they use.
