For those of you with DCT we have serious issues...
WTF is going on with all our trannies. I'm obviously not the only one on the forum with this issue
my car has been in the shop for 21 days now. took it in oct 8th for the transmission malfunction light. got it back last tuesday, only to have it towed back to due an unacceptable by my dealer with them somehow overfilling my engine with oil. Friday i get word that while they were attempting to fix their mistake, my tranny malfunctioned again with the light. they changed 3 parts They are claiming it is nothing mechanical, that is it a software issue and that BMW engineers in germany still haven't gotten in contact with them. 21 days later. When we discussed possible lemon law resolutions they tried to tell me I would have to pay a lot to return my car to stock form before they can accept it... also they mentioned trying to replace the tranny entirely. For those of you who have this issue or changed your trannies, has the problem returned. I love my car and do not want it to get lemoned. my beef is really with my dealership that did that crap to my engine. I had a thread on here not to long ago. But please chime in I need some feedback. I saw a lot of old threads with similar issues but how did you go about fixing it? did the tranny change fix it? These pieces of crap are trying to play tough. I have minor mods on the car and their saying its gonna cost a lot to return the car back to stock so we can accept it. THEY OWE ME MONEY NOT THE OTHER WAY AROUND! Last edited by M3ryder55; 10-28-2010 at 09:22 PM.. |

I'm sorry to hear this for sure! I'm sorry, what *exactly* is the issue with your DCT? I have DCT and it is flawless so far. I've had my M3 for only a few months. How many miles on yours and how do you drive? I have 9K-ish miles.

Dude, it's like any mechanical issue with cars....hit or miss. I've got 21k HARD miles on mine, and it shifts just like new.
If I were having DCT software issues I would seriously consider trying out the ESS DCT flash. Just an idea .

Also, looking at your mod list, it would not take much to put it back to stock. That's just typical stealer BS. Everything is DIY'able, even for the springs (if you have a compressor).

i call that B** $hit demand to get your car back, your mods does not interfere with any electronic parts of the car, i think they seriously did something wrong to your car

they didn't blame the mods, but they are basically trying to rape me if they lemon the car saying it's going to cost a lot to return it back to stock form so we can accept it back. I'll find out more tomorrow. I took the car in on Oct 8th, with just 2 previous mishaps. Give me the car for half a day, I'll fix everything and we'll proceed from there. Thats all I wanna do but I know the dealer is trying to hide something. Their not getting a DIME out of me. In fact I will personally go there with a screw drive and remove my license plate frame that they were too cheap to give me as a gift, claiming I got a good deal on a 70k car.

Call BMWNA and tell them whats going on. Pretty sure they are the ones who approve lemon cases, not the dealership itself? I could be wrong.
Oh and my DCT is fine as well. Original software and all.

Nothing wrong with posting problems on a forum, (that's what it's for) but I think your headline is misleading. For those of us who have DCT, "we" don't have a problem. You do. 2 years and mine's just fine. Sorry to hear of your problems, and I wish you luck in getting it resolved. Not trying to minimize your problems... I would be very disappointed, to say the least, to have to go through all that. Just pointing out that the vast majority of DCT owners have no problems.

12000 miles 2011 DCT knock on wood no issues!! I'd understand if 10% of DCT or even 5% are changing the tranny to title the thread "WE have serious issues" but sporadic cases?? I’m not so sure. Don't get me wrong, I feel for you and your problem but I think many BMW enthusiasts are attacking DCT unfairly. Has an MT guy changed his tranny at 6k, the title wouldn't have been "for MT owners, WE have a serious problem" but may be "I've got a lemon, what do I do?"

Your specific transmission issue is very much isolated. It does not mean all of our transmissions are going to fall apart like yours did. Your issue is more dealer incompetence than anything...

I had initial issues with the software. The car would stall and also lag. I took it in and they updated the software. It never stalled again, but the lag still sucked. Several months later a new flash came out and it pretty much solved the lag, about 80% of it. I am happy with it now.
I have had the car 2 years and 3 months and have about 11K on it. No other DCT issues to speak of. I thought I was going to have to Lemon the car too, but on the 4th attempt, they solved the issues. I know its frustrating, but they are trying to fix it. However, it does seem like it has been in the shop for quite a long time. I would call BMWNA and explain what is going on and that 3 weeks in the shop is ridiculous, which it is. Maybe calling them and complaining will light a fire under somebodys butt and get it done sooner...it's worth a shot.

I didn't mean it to be misleading per say but when I did a search a good number of people were experiencing this. This should not happen to say the least, even those with brand new 11's with 350 miles 1050 and such have reported it.
Sorry to be misleading, I'm just extremely frustrated. BMW NA said they would look into lemoning the car but also mentioned me "paying a lot" to return the car back to stock form. I got everything in my garage, all the stock components and I'm not paying a time for them to do anything. It is not my fault. If they want, give me my car back for half a day, i'll return everything back to normal and proceed from there. My car was in good running condition on October 8th when it was taken in. So why can't they let me drive it to my local shop and let me return it back to stock? |

Lemon Law
I believe in California after the car has been in the shop for the same problem for more then 3 ( Maybe 4 ) times in under 10K miles you can request a arbitration to "lemon" the car. Also, another part of the law states that if you have had your car in for service for over 30 days it falls under the lemon law.
I had a Toyota 4Runner lemoned and they gave me back all my money minus the prorated dates I actually had use of the car. I went through Toyota's third party arbitration process... It might be worth a shot... if you request the third party arbitration process they cannot refuse it. Good Luck |

If the DCT tranny is so bad, why would BMW keep producing the same thing over and over again? That would just cost them more money in the long run if they had to recall....And you would think that they already know about all the issues by now. I am sure they have data on all the warranty DCT service issues since the start of production....unless they just dont give a shit, then if that was the case, they wouldnt survive long as company. maybe its just the number of failures vs non-failures isnt high enough to warrant a complete redesign of the dct?
