Gas Prices

I still think that America must accept some blame for the high price of crude oil. If the demand wasn't so strong then the market price would decline....and since every other person in my neighborhood seems to drive a Suburban or Expedition at 12 mpg....why is anyone surprised that supply and demand actually effects the price of oil? And yes I've heard that it's more of a refinery problem etc etc but oil still now costs $67/barrel before it hits the refinery.

The price of oil doubled in the last 2 years, the SUVs, although I hate them are only a tiny contributor. I'll let you guess what happened and who is to blame. Another reason is huge demand by China

The E90 320d gets 38-41 mpg..The X5 gets 28-31..Crazy..And they are just as clean as some gas engines..US needs to get on the ball...

gas prices are high because of hipe. That's it! the more it is talked about, instability in Iraq [Thanks George], uncertantity in Saudi Arabia with a new King, hurricane season, all adds up to stress, plus people trying to cash in with stocks drive the price up. Why aren't there more refineries if that contributes?? Because oil companies don't give a shit about consumers. Look at the profits they are making, why would they want the price to drop?

It is low. So is the E60. Don't drive through any deep puddles...I've read that somebody stalled in a not-too-deep puddle in the road. Maybe it was baloney but I read this once on E60.net.

Patience my fellow BMW drivers......according Wall Street analysis....gasoline and crude oil prices will drop after Labor Day weekend......summer traveling etc...officially over.

Premium is in the $3.10-3.20 range now in the Chicago 'burbs; probably 0.10 more in the city. Thankful I have a good job; I don't even think about it.

Friend told me his wife's Lexus LX gets 11 mpg--ouch!

But according to Wall Street analysis....today's gas price hike is nothing compare to 1980. Adjusted to today's inflation.....you would be paying $3.09 for premium and a barrel of crude oil was $90 in 1980.

All the talking heads on television and in the papers keep repeating over and over again that today's gas costs are below what they were at their peak as if that means that there is room to go back to the peak without worrying. This conveniently ignores what life was like when the prices hit the top. I remember lineups at the pumps, businessess failing, etc., etc. Maybe the talking heads are so young that they never lived through it themselves or they don't have a memory. Believe me, the times were not good.

An interesting angle that did not occur to me was presented recently in the media. The analysis was that the USA, the world's largest oil consuming country, will not take action to reduce consumption because that would penalize the manufacturers of the vehicles that consume the most gas more than the makers of fuel efficient vehicles., i.e., the domestic operations of US auto makers. I guess things like Hummers, Ford F150's, Dodge Magnums, Lincoln Navigators, etc., etc., keep workers working and electing senators and representatives.

probably not as high as what my family pays in hong kong. works out to almost $6 per gallon.
