DCT Transmission Leak
I was at the dealership this morning for some routine service and while the car was up on the rack the tech discovered a leak in one of the two external lines running to & from the trans thermostat block . They opened a ticket with BMWNA and I'm awaiting the verdict. According to the tech and my SA, BMW (currently?) doesn't make these lines, but rather generally replaces the entire transmission. Anyone have any experience with something similar?
Thanks, Chief |

I have heard tranny leaks for multiple reasons. It is typically not a big deal your SA will tell you whats up with the tranny and test for damage if any.
Nothing wrong with getting a new tranny for free if under warranty? The worst thing is order time for a new tranny or any parts coming from Germany takes forever!! |

Wonder why they would opt to replace trans over getting a new line?

Dealers do not open up and service DCT transmissions. They are instructed to send them in to be serviced and replace with a new unit to the customer when there is a internal hardware failure.

I can confirm that BMW does make and sell the lines, as we purchased them for cores in the process of adapting temperature sensors to the DCT transmission:
The part numbers are available here: http://realoem.com/bmw/showparts.do?...37&hg=17&fg=05 As Roman said it may be that BMW is more inclined to repair DCT transmissions off-site.

I think that the failed DCTs have led to...hopefully...something even more reliable on the F10 M5. Which is supposed to be the same tranny except it has been strengthened to handle more torque. All in an effort to put the SMG out of everyone's memories???

It surprises me that they would spend all the labor and money swapping out a DCT transmission over what looks to be $300.00 is hoses. It would also be great if the transmission got replaced with a new one rather then a remanufactured one. I am not sure what type of parts they use when replacing items like these.
Good luck chief!

I could not readily see the top connections, which seem to be above the transmission. |
