Wonder how kids at the states can easily owned an M3 at age of 20. But in where i live, u have to be a rich fella to own one. And $70k is not cheap. Will i guess thats d difference between east and west. West= enjoy 1st, save money later. East = save 1st, enjoy later.

Very few people in their 20s, particularly early 20s, can easily own a 70k car. Some people on this board do it because they live with their parent, or live in a dump apartment or something and aren't saving a dime of money. But you are right, many in this country are in the live for the moment lifestyle and aren't fiscally responsible.

I am one of those 20 something people. I'm 23, have my own 2 bedroom house in a very nice neighborhood, and have been contributing the max to my IRA since I was 18 years old. So I guess the above quote is a standard for others, or I guess I am out of the norm.

Impressive... I was nowhere near that far ahead when I was 18.

How did you make your money before you got your degree?

...and what's your target retirement age?

34, Power plant operator, X-Navy nuke mm.

I bought a house 1.5 years out of college, then I got the car a year later.

I've been good at saving money since I started working. I bought most of the stuff I have used off of Craigslist (couch, table, weight set, bike, vacuum, even my bed). I found a used 2011 ZCP with 14k miles on ebay, put 20k down, and now my payments are $700/month. I just recently got my first credit card which I only use to buy gasoline for the 5% discount.

I decided to buy the car now while I'm still young and single and don't have too many responsibilities. Plus my money was starting to burn a hole in my pocket and I was probably going to waste it anyway.

I mean we're talking $60-70k MSRP on a coupe and just a little less for a sedan. Man when I was that age I KNOW I may have wanted to spend that much on a car (I remember being in love with a black Audi A4 in 1998) but there was no way that was happening on income/budget/school/etc! LOL Nice to have overcome all that now tho! ~
LOL you really think those 18-20 year old kids are paying for the car themselves?? lol they have their parents buy it for them of course.
Im 21 and financing mine at the moment some people actually work hard you know

Owned my own landscaping business for the past 8 years, while working full time jobs in the summer. Id love to be retired by 40, but at the rate this economy is going theres no way that's going to happen.

I am still at a bit of a loss of how people in their early 20's can afford a new M3. Sure you have the occasional entrepreneurial genius, etc., but I am just curious to know exactly what kind of jobs people in their early 20's are getting to allow this. Even if you finish college at 21, you need a few years of savings to get somewhat settled, no? And are people really getting 6 figure salaries immediately out of undergrad?

I know some of it may be priorities. I would never buy a new M3, for instance, if I didn't have a proper garage to keep it in, which means that I would have to have a decent house first.

Just curious.
