Got a cup in front bumper air duct. Best protection?

Got engine temperature quickly passing 210F and getting into the 3rd quarter just after 10+ minutes of driving. After looking around the car found out that there was a foam cup stuck in the air duct on the driver side. Apparently it seems like it was designed to fit the cup - needed to tear it into pieces to get it out of there.

Which brings me to the question. What would be the best way to protect the driver's side duct pathway? There is a radiator grille in the passenger side duct, so it's alright there, but nothing at all on the driver side.

So far I found only one picture with some kind of a protection installed in this thread http://www.m3post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=389296 back from 2010.

Wanted to see if that's just me missing some part in there, or if anyone else installed anything in there to protect the duct.

That duct supplies supplemental intake air, not cooling, so surprised it caused your temperature to rise. The grillwork in the photo looks custom, but is a nice idea.

I thought that it was used for the intake air supply but looking in there with the light I could see engine parts, like just looking under the hood just from bottom up. As for the grillwork - agree, looks pretty good, wanted to see if there is something manufactured like that.

I guess I was surprised a bit that I could see all the way through, though it does make sense now. Anyway, I'd like to know if any one else had any issue or found a solution like in the original post. it just seems like all kind of shit can get in there - leaves, plastic bags, cups to name the few. Or I'm just getting paranoid because of the stupid cup, which by a simple chance got stuck right at the entrance of that duct leg (where the two screws pointing) effectively blocking the whole duct.

Stuff gets in there. Pop the hood and clean it out once in a while.

I'd recommend getting a K&N cone filter for the air duct.
ESS is running a special where you buy the K&N Cone filter ($8K) and get a free Super Charger
