Anyone Racing/Driving on E85?

Please share real world data not just myths you may have heard somewhere else...I know there are a lot of those out there.

I'm considering it but not for everyday use or letting it sit in the fuel system besides race wkends. I'll switch back to 93oct between events.

Never heard of an E85 tune for the M3. Why are you looking to do this?

A properly tuned car makes more power on E85 than pure gas/E10; properly tuned meaning tuned for the E85 of course. GT-R guys do it I know. I haven't heard of it in BMW applications.

From what I remember hearing, it is much more prone to degradation/evaporation and will likely require larger capacity fuel injection.

I'm looking into doing this because E85 is actually cheap race gas oct levels, believe it or not. Guys running it in boosted or turbo cars are seeing huge increases in power. I'm looking to close the gap from the tune Evo's and Sti's in my racing group. They have me in pure TQ but I've got them in HP, so if I can close the gap it makes it a no brainer. Our cars should respond to this kind of fuel because of it's higher compression ratio.

Anyone out there having good results yet with this?

On my Subaru STi I was running e85 for a year and did not have one problem. Car gained 50whp and 50wtq compared to 93 ocatne. Stuff is legit and works great if done properly. Larger fuel pumps, injectors etc. Been curious to see if anybody has gone this route on the M3 as well?

What racing class has you in with Evo's and STI's? And what class has fuel open?

SCCA STU autocross class allows E85, though that could be changing very soon. It is currently out for member comment to oulaw E85 due to the fact that virtually none of the cars running it in the ST classes were designed to run E85 and it's causing a lot of people to bitch about trailer queens in a street tire class. Good idea keep on top of the rules or you'll have wasted a lot of time.

Thanks for the heads up about the rules, but I know for a fact as of now there aren't ANY changes to STU class rules for 2013. Thx.

On the other hand, yes you are very correct about the trailer queens!
