Do you let your kids ride in the M?

My wife thinks I'm nuts. During wet or snowy days I make my kids take off their shoes/boots when sitting in the M. In fact if I could create a "body condom" without upsetting child social services I would. Is anyone else as anal as I am?

Agree with your wife . I just clean my car, it's not a big deal. They're kids, they run and play and have dirty shoes that's what they do. It's not like they're permanently damaging anything. I have 2 kids, 6 and 4.

We are planning/working on kids so my wife and I talk about this frequently. We have two other cars which are better suited for kids, a big Toyota Sequoia and a TDI Jetta with leatherette. The leatherette cleans easily and the sequoia is basically a utility truck so I don't care. I see no reason to drive the m3 with kids. IRS not like I'll drive fast. She sort of agrees.

It'll end up being a rare time kids get in the car, but from time to time, I'm sure they'll be in it.

We don't drive it in the rain an wouldn't take it anyways to a place we'd get dirty (eg hiking, swimming, etc).

Assuming my kids don't throw crap everywhere, I don't think there will be too much issue.

Not nearly as anal. My nephew loves riding in the M3. I just help him brush off his boots before he gets in.

I agree about being selective about your passengers. I have a colleague that has dandruff and I make him drive to lunch. I have a friend that sits on the ground (outdoor) most of time. I ride my moped to meet up with him. I have a fat father in law that smokes and douses cheap cologne to hide the cigarette smell. He also eats a lot of raw garlic in the morning. I take my wife's car to drive him around.

I certainly understand about kids. My friends car is all scuffed up by the kids shoes and toys. I understand the M is not a lambo, but it is still a lot of money to most of us. With same money you can put a nice deposit for a condo flat.

If I had a late model corolla as my only car, I would still like to keep the car fairly new. Its just how I am. For those who grew up in a working class family, we certainly appreciate having a nice condition car.

There are times were we can control the x factors, why make it hard on us. Accidents do happen, however we can prevent or take caution to these events, such as training the kids to behave to sit still, no food or drinks, etc.

It's a car. It's supposed to serve me - not be an inconvenience to me. You can always just get a new one.

I've got 3 and 6 year old boys. They've always had access to my BMWs (6 in the last 6 years) with no problems. The materials in BMWs wear and clean well - I've never had a problem. I also let them eat most things in the car. I clean it up ASAP or as soon as practicable.

Just use some common sense.

All you need are some rubber mats and some ground rules.
1. No eating or drinking in the car.
2. No liquids in the car without a cap.
3. No art projects with GLITTER (herpes of the art world).
4. All backpacks (which usually contain art projects and/or food) go in the trunk.
5. Keep feet off the back of the seats.
6. Keep fingers off the windows.
My kids have known these rules since they were old enough to talk. They understand them and it's all good.

I got an E90 so both kids could ride in it. It's my daily driver, and that includes dropping off the little ones at school.

With that said, I bought a pet cover that shields the entire rear seat. I also put seat back covers on the front seats.

+1 on the rules from Budge.

Incredible with some on the responses. I agree with the rubber floor mats. I have no kids but I'm sure I wouldn't mind cleaning.

I used to be much more anal about this, but I've been getting better. After all, I got an E90 M3 (and E60 M5 before that) so that I could drive the family on weekends. I'd much rather drive my M3 with the kids in the back than my wife's MDX on weekends. I do try to clean the footprints off the seatbacks every couple of days, and I have a rule about no drinks or food in the car unless it's a sippy cup, but a large part of the point of having a 4-door M3 is having a fantastically responsive, sporty car that will also fit the family. If I didn't allow the family in the car, I'd get a 911 or a Z06 or an Exige.

seat covers and rubber mats sound like something I'll have to look into when the day comes... especially since I have speed cloth
