If your looking for an all out track car you will not be dissapointed with the Boss. The engine and exhaust noises will drown out the squeeks and rattles you WILL eventually get. If your looking for a solid vehicle in and out keep the M. I want to kick myself in the teeth for not getting the M sooner. |

The new Mustang interiors are actually not bad if equipped with the Premium interior package along with the electronics package. Is it of the M3 caliber..no, its not. However, its better than what you would imagine. The fit and finish on the Mustang has improved immensly, they are built in the same plant as the Mazda6.
I think Templar nailed it, I'm amazed on the rest of the Ford lineup for their interiors. The new Edge/Explorer interiors are really up there with the higher end marquee, and the new Taurus and such are also better than the Mustang. Heck the new Fusion has a nicer interior. The new Mustang interior did improve greatly for 2010, just still not up to par with the BMW. Then again what do you expect for a car that bases 30k less for the Mustang GT vs. E92 M3. Dave

So it has nothing to do with: 1) Exahust Valves 2) Exhaust Ports 3) Exhaust Manifolds/headers 4) Exhaust pipes/mufflers 5) Crankshaft Phasing 6) Bore 7) Stroke 8) Compression 9) Valve timing 10)Combustion chamber I'm obviously being a little sarcastic (as if thats anything new) because I've heard many people over the years claim that firing order has a profound effect on the exhaust note and never bought in. Not only are all of the above listed crucial in effecting the exhaust note, but over the years, I've seen two different engines on stands with the same firing order sound completely different. However, firing order WILL definiely effect the exhaust note if you get it wrong!

I think it naive to expect similarities other than in paper between the two, their just vastly different cars. the 302 will surly be a track car that's what it was design to be from the start. Last edited by SnakeKiller; 02-16-2011 at 04:16 PM.. |

When I was trying to get insurance for my Camaro years ago, Hagerty at first refused to insure me because I stated in my application I might take the car to the drag strip once or twice a year. The rep told me (this is back in 2005) that they deny applications that state the owner intends to do any racing at all for the state of Virginia. He claimed this was because Virginia has a law that REQUIRES insurance to cover the car regardless. Anyway I just adjusted my application to state I would not be drag racing it at all. I do not know if this case applies to regular cars or not. On the subject of HPDE (high performance driving education) it used to be that you would still be covered by your typical auto insurance. However, in the last few years you will notice they have changed the wording in the insurance agreement to basically exclude coverage from such events as well. I think the wording changed from racing the car to if you drive the car on a surface normally used for racing. Check with your insurance (or have someone else do it for you so you don't give yourself away). When I went to Summit Point a few months ago there were some track day insurance options. There are also some online you can buy. A few things to note though:
I did not buy any insurance myself. If you are in your M3, leave the traction and stability control on and trust your in-car instructor. He/she will tell you when you are getting close to losing control of the car (or if you are taking a turn too early which may result in losing control of your car etc). They won't push you past what you are comfortable with so just take it a little easy. Summit Point has run-off room and gravel traps at the areas people typically have issues with.

As a owner of a 2011 mustang I don't think I could do the trade. You would be sacrificing to much for to little in return. The m3 has the performance of the boss but far more luxuries. Maybe you could trade it in for real manual or go to a few track days to get the excitement back.

Right, nothing in common. But it's not the firing order that gives it its exhaust note.
