I usually let it settle down also before driving off....
Pardon the question..... Can someone explain exactly what is happening during the cold start, the associated sounds with it from your observation, how long it takes etc.
want to compare notes because when I start mine in the morning it makes many sounds I've not heard before.... Used to have an M Toadster with S54 but this S65 is raucous !
.... Sounds at first almost like oil hasn't yet reached the valve train but perhaps this is the normal cold start function.

I believe starting with 231E software revision, it's only 60 seconds. I don't know the internals, but I suspect the cam phasers are adjusted and the secondary air pump active to speed the heat up of the primary cats.

Thread is old but relevant to what I was needing to know. I have the Akra full system installed on my M3 and on start up it is loud! I feel sorry for the neighbours but once the cold start has finished it is considerably quieter. I was looking to see if the cold start could be removed and from what I have read it can be, all good.

Yes it can be removed along with an ECU tune.

Well, here's my 2 cents worth.
Had an ESS 650, asked for cold start removal. ESS said that since I live in New England and it gets "cold", they left it in, even though I have the full Akra.

Garage does shake till it warms up, it's cool but a bit much!

Agreed, I was even thinking about putting the stock system back on but I would miss it too much once out on the road.

I have a MPE + Test Pipes + ESS Tune setup. Even though I kept cold start with the tune, I've noticed that cold starts aren't as loud and as aggressive as when I just had the MPE (or it may not even be doing full cold start cycle.)

Recently, the Test Pipes + ESS Tune were removed to pass smog and I again noticed a considerably louder cold start cycle being back with stock + MPE.

Anyone have similar experiences? Is this an ESS Tune issue?
