That whole sandpaper bit about making the weights stick better is pure bullshit. They should own up to their mistakes or have your lawyer start making the phone calls to them. This "high end" shop isn't a porsche shop, is it? Can't think of any other lousy shop in the OC....

As for the shop this is utterly absurd. If the wheel weights aren't sticking then clean the area and use adhesion promoter, you don't do hundreds or thousands of unessesary damage to the customer's wheels. The wheels need to be sent to HRE for refinishing on their dime.

The shop claims they did not sand all the way through the powder and they believe the scratches can be polished out. It sure looks like I can see metal but we will see. They want me to drop off the wheels and they will send them out for polishing.
They said that sending them back to HRE would not be an option and if anything they would send out the wheels to their own powdercoater/do it in-house (wasn't clear on this point). Which is a bunch of bs. I could have taken my wheels to a local powdercoating shop but instead I borrowed a car and took two half days off work to drive them down to HRE to get the job done to OEM standards. |

Not sure how you managed to stay this calm. I would have gone ballistic. My shop hid the wheel weights behind the spokes without me even thinking to ask--looks awesome. RRT in northern Virginia if anyone needs this done in the area.

W Cole, please contact me or Vince directly. We would like for you to bring the wheels to us to handle. We've discussed this with the dealer and let them know we felt there was absolutely no reason to do this. They have their own reasons, but they do not apply to HRE wheels.
Please let us refinish the wheels for you at no charge and bring them with the tires so we can mount/balance them properly. |

I worked at a tire shop for years groing up. We had a cleaner that was used to wipe of dirt and debris so the weights would stick better, never the use of sand paper. Props to Lon and HRE for stepping up, thats really awesome !
